HERMISTON — After taking advantage of sloppy Hermiston defense to grab a one-run lead in the top of the fifth inning Tuesday, Ridgeview allowed two runs in the home half of the inning before falling 5-3 in its softball season opener.

Trailing 2-0 in the fifth, the Ravens stayed alive after Hermiston dropped a third out. Sage McVay knocked in two runs with a hit, and Allicite Frost drove in another run to give Ridgeview a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, however, the Bulldogs scored two runs and added an insurance run in the sixth before putting the Ravens away.

McVay and Frost each finished with two hits for Ridgeview.

Cancellations

Due to either inclement weather or conflicting schedules, a number of events involving Central Oregon teams Tuesday were cancelled. Baseball games that were scratched included Hermiston at Ridgeview and Eagle Point at Madras. Culver at La Pine softball was also cancelled, as were three boys tennis matches (Crook County at Redmond, Mountain View at Sisters, Madras at The Dalles) and three girls tennis duals (Redmond at Crook County, Sisters at Mountain View, The Dalles at Madras). La Pine began its nonconference baseball game against Culver, but the contest was halted due to rain with the Hawks leading 4-2 in the top of the third inning. That game, however, will not count, as it will start over if the contest is rescheduled.
