- A Case for Camp
Are your kids glued to TV, video games, or the latest and greatest app? Why not get them outside and away from screens this summer? Sign your kids up for Tumalo Creek’s Kids Camps and let them explore the Central Oregon rivers and lakes in a fun and supportive setting! Campers will learn new skills and gain valuable paddling experience that they will carry with them for a lifetime.
“Our camps have really exploded in popularity in the last few years,” says Geoff Frank, owner and operator. “Parents in Bend understand the value in getting kids outdoors at a young age, helping them to develop the skills and confidence they need to safely enjoy all that Central Oregon has to offer.”
Tumalo Creek offers two camps, Paddlesports Adventure Camp and Whitewater Kayak Camp, throughout the summer. Camp sessions run Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Some days end later due to extended travel time). Tumalo Creek’s engaging camp staff are experienced in leading kids and are trained in first aid and CPR.
Camps cost $395 per camper, per session and include four days of instruction, transportation, and unforgettable memories. Campers are advised to wear quick-dry clothing, and bring a change of clothes as well as warm layers as weather can be variable. Campers must bring their own nutritious lunch, and snacks for a high- energy week of fun! All necessary paddling gear is provided.

This camp is open to all skill levels and is designed to cater to varying levels of experience. Your child will not only become familiar with a variety of paddle sports, they will also practice cooperation and teambuilding in an active and engaging environment, all while gaining a greater appreciation for the Central Oregon outdoors.
Whitewater Kayak Camp
Ages 10-15 | Cost: $395 | July 2-5, July 30-August 2
This popular camp is a gentle introduction to the sport of whitewater kayaking for all skill levels with an emphasis on fun and safety. Campers will spend the first day at Elk Lake getting comfortable in boats and practicing bracing, self-rescues and rolling. After day one, campers will be grouped based on skill and comfort level. Some will progress to paddling rapids, and others will spend more time on flatwater, practicing paddle skills through water games. If the group feels ready, we’ll spend the last day of camp running some easy Class II rapids.
