LA PINE — With six games still left on its Mountain Valley Conference baseball schedule, La Pine has distanced itself for the league title.
Wyatt DeForest went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in a 7-1 Hawks win in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader against Pleasant Hill. Then DeForest went 3-for-3 with two home runs and five RBIs to help Class 3A No. 3-ranked La Pine complete the sweep with an 11-1 victory over the Billies.
With the two wins, the Hawks (6-0 MVC, 13-1 overall) remained unbeaten in conference play, while second-place Pleasant Hill (3-2 MVC) dropped into second place in the league standings.
In the opener, Adam Plant had two hits and an RBI, Riley Pinckney and Angelo Roes each had a hit and an RBI, and Jake Farnsworth struck out nine in a complete game for La Pine.
Roes pitched all five innings for the Hawks in the second game, fanning three and throwing just 63 pitches. Plant was 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Pinckney and Roes each had two hits and an RBI, and Austin McKittrick had two hits and scored twice for the Hawks.

Gladstone 13, Madras 3: GLADSTONE — The White Buffaloes (3-3 TVC, 8-6 overall) fell in Tri-Valley Conference play.
Softball
La Pine 11-13, Pleasant Hill 3-9: LA PINE — SueAnn Marsh highlighted a six-run fourth inning for the Hawks with a two-run homer in the first game of a Mountain Valley Conference doubleheader, setting the tone for a La Pine sweep. Marsh also singled and walked in the game, and Stephanie Westbrook added a single and a triple in La Pine’s first league win of the season. Josey Hawkins struck out eight and walked one in the Hawks’ opening-game win, and she then hit a three-run home run in the first inning of the second game. Westbrook went 2-for-4 in the second game with a double and a triple for La Pine (2-4 MVC, 5-8 overall), and Angela Cardonia knocked in four runs with three singles and a double.
Track and field
Outlaws win on road: SWEET HOME — Mandi Calavan won the 100 and the 400 and was second in the 200 to help the Sisters girls to 263 points and a first-place finish at a three-team Sky-Em League meet. Sisters’ Samantha Silva posted a personal-best leap of 29-9 to win the triple jump, and she also won the long jump. The Outlaws’ Kendra Sitz was first in the 300 hurdles with a personal-record time of 51.52 seconds and was first in the 100 hurdles, and Ella Cole won the 1,500 in a PR 5:44.27 and was third in the long jump. Sweet Home was second with 125 points, and Elmira was third with 113. For the Sisters boys, who were second as a team with 170 points, Jordan Pollard won the 400, with a PR of 51.17, and the 800. Also for the Outlaws, David Perez was first in the discus with a PR of 117-4, and Garrett Kersavage took first in the pole vault and second in the triple jump. Elmira won with 241.5 points, and Sweet Home was third with 155.5.
