Measles warning in Portland — Health officials say upward of 500 people in the Portland area might have been exposed to the measles after someone with the virus entered a child care center in Gresham. The measles infection was confirmed Wednesday after an emergency room visit. Multnomah County health officials, Adventist Health Portland and the child care center have issued notifications to anyone who might have come into contact with the patient. Those most at risk of contracting the illness include people who have not been inoculated, pregnant women, babies or those with weakened immune systems.

Wheeler sheriff, deputies quitting — Wheeler County will be without law enforcement officers after a sheriff and his deputies announced their departures. Sheriff Chris Humphreys notified county officials last month of his plans to leave, giving officials up to six months to find a replacement. The department’s three full-time deputies are also leaving, and the one part-time deputy is resigning, said Humphreys, who was elected for the role in 2013. The mass departure was not planned, Humphreys said. The deputies are moving on to larger agencies. Humphreys says he’s exhausted from the growing workload placed on the office. The county, which covers about 1,700 square miles and has about 1,500 people, does not contain any city police departments.
