Football

Redmond schools to hold youth football camp in August — Redmond High School will host Redmond Panther Youth Football Camp for kids in third through eighth grade on Aug. 7-9. The camp will meet from 9 a.m. to noon each day, and the cost is $30 for those who register before Aug. 1. Ridgeview High School will host Junior Ravens Football Camp on Aug. 13, 15 and 17. The Ravens camp is open to fourth- through eighth-graders and will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $20. To learn more about both camps, visit www.facebook.com/redmondyouthfootball.

Running

Registration open for Beat Beethoven’s 5th — Online sign-ups are now open for the fourth annual Beat Beethoven’s 5th 5K, which will be held in Bend at the Central Oregon Community College track at 9 a.m. on Aug. 25. Runners are encouraged to “race” Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, an approximately 33-minute composition. A 1-mile run/walk will begin soon after the 5K. Entry costs $30 to sign up for the 5K as an individual or a part of a team, and the 1-mile run/walk is $20. The kids race is free. To learn more, visit www.beatbeethoven5k.com.

Soccer

Cascade Rush team reaches regional finals — The Cascade Rush Boys 2001 team lost 2-1 to the Tacoma, Washington-based Franklin Pierce Soccer Club in the National Cup XVII Northwest Regional, which was held June 29-July 2 in Boise, Idaho. Summit High’s Simon Kidder scored on a penalty kick in the 43rd minute of the final, but the Rush allowed two goals in the second half and failed to qualify for the national cup tournament. Bend High’s Jaxson Key scored three goals in the four-game tournament, while Owen Bryne of Redmond High and Jack O’Connell of Mountain View each scored a goal and made an assist. Summit’s Emory Steele scored once.

Softball

Warm Springs wins state tournament — The Warm Springs Nation Little League junior all-star team won the Oregon State Junior Softball tournament with a 7-4 victory over Columbia in Clackamas on Thursday. Warm Springs went undefeated in four games, outscoring opponents 44-7.

Triathlon

Bend’s Thomas third at Challenge Roth — Jesse Thomas, 38 and of Bend, finished third at Challenge Roth, an ultra-distance triathlon contested in and around Roth, Germany, on July 1. Thomas completed the 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run in 7 hours, 54 minutes, 38 seconds. German triathlete Sebastian Kienle won in 7:46:23, and Andreas Dreitz, another German, was second.
