George W. Shackelford II

George W. Shackelford II, “Shack”, passed away July 6, 2018, while in the care of Hospice House in Bend, Oregon. George was born February 24, 1946, in Omaha, Nebraska, to George and Wilma Shackelford. He was 72 years old.

George graduated from San Juan High School in Citrus Heights, California, in 1964; earning a BS in Forestry from Oregon State University; and a Masters in Psychology from the College of William and Mary. He served in the Army during the Vietnam war, and settled in Bend, Oregon, in 1979. He married his wife, Joanne, in 1987 and worked as a child and family therapist throughout central Oregon.

George is survived by his wife, Joanne (Sisters); stepsons, Jeramy Cummings (Bend), Brian Cummings (Bend); grandchildren, Brenna Cummings, Andrew Cummings, and Addison Cummings; and sister, Linda Mandere (Redding, California).

George spent many hours in his retirement volunteering at the Deschutes Historical Society, Sisters Rodeo Assoc., and as a director of the Deschutes County Fair. But his favorite time was spent as a volunteer coach with the Sisters Outlaw football team for the last 14 years.

A celebration of his life is planned for Friday, July 27, at the Sisters High School football stadium at 7:00 pm.
