Tom and Joien “Jo” (Fehrenbacher) Freedman, of Bend, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this week, and will have a party with family and friends in the spring.
The couple were married Dec. 30, 1967, in St. Thomas Catholic Church in Redmond. They have three children, Thomas Freedman, Jr., of Portland, Sara Freedman (and Ian Costello), of Bend, and Mindy Brook, of Bend; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Freedman was raised in Powell Butte and graduated from Redmond Union High School in 1960. He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting and business statistics from the University of Oregon in 1965. He joined Les Schwab Tire Center in 1971 as controller, became chief financial officer and now serves on the board of directors. Mrs. Freedman grew up in Lone Pine and graduated from Crook County High School in 1962. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Portland in 1966. She taught eighth grade in Portland public schools for several years before returning to Prineville to raise her family. The couple have been golfers at the Prineville Golf and Country Club for 20 years. They moved to Bend in 2005, where their passions include hiking, kayaking and spending time with their children, grandchildren and friends.
They have lived in Central Oregon for 60 years.
