David M. Houk, 71, passed away on July 16, 2018, at his home in Nebraska City, Nebraska, after a long illness. He was born on December 16, 1946, in Prineville, Oregon.
Dave grew up as the beloved big brother of five and after moving to Bend, Oregon, in his teen years, graduated from Bend Senior High School in 1964. While Prineville remained the hometown of his heart, he also lived and worked in Ocean Park, Washington, and spent many years in Nebraska.
Dave entered the U.S. Marine Corps in August 1967, and served with H Battery, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Division, and 1st 8-inch Howitzer Battery during the Vietnam campaign. During his service to the Marines he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service and Campaign Medals, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Achievement and Navy Commendation Medals, the Good Conduct Medal, and a Purple Heart.The time he spent in the military serving his country remained a great source of honor and pride to Dave his entire life.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Donald L. and Ruth Houk; and his brother, Dennis Houk. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Addy of La Pine, Oregon; his sister, Donna Laird of Redmond, Oregon; his brother and sister-in-law, Donald (Sandy) and Jocelyn Houk of Bend, Oregon; his sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Fred Baldwin of Redmond, Oregon; his loving life companion, Jan Morgan of Nebraska City, Nebraska; and his furry friend and helper, Sam. The family would like to send special thanks to his hospice caretakers.
A memorial service was held for Dave on July 26, 2018, in Nebraska City, Nebraska. A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Dave will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
