SISTERS — Actors wearing cowboy hats and fake mustaches turned the downtown into an old western shootout Saturday during the Sisters Wild West Show.

Characters with names like Tetherow Tex LaRue, Sidekick Rick and Stargazer Sal performed five skits throughout the day. Many of the skits ended with the characters drawing their guns and firing black powder blanks at each other.

The sixth annual Wild West Show also featured arts and crafts vendors, a beer garden and a country western dance in the evening.

Mick Howard, who played Sheriff Mojave Mick, said the actors like to include some comedy in the skits. Their first skit of the day was about two cowboys in a shootout who kept missing each other and accidentally shooting all of the innocent bystanders.

“There is kind of a dark side so we try to balance that with a little humor,” Howard said.

Re-enacting the Wild West is easy in Sisters, which is known as a western-themed tourist destination, Howard said.

“It fits here. People expect to see that here,” Howard said. “We can walk through town, and it’s not like it’s a big shock to anybody.”

Bend resident Carol Stewart came to the show with her husband, Brian, and their three children, 11-year-old Riley, 8-year-old Austin and 4-year-old Brady.

The family did not plan on seeing the Wild West Show during their day-trip to Sisters, but they were intrigued and stopped to see what was going on, Stewart said.

Stewart said her family had never been to a Wild West show before.

“It’s pretty cool,” she said. “Sisters does a lot of really fun stuff.”

Sisters resident Shannon Richburg watched the Wild West skits with her 5-year-old daughter. Richburg moved from South Carolina to Sisters three months ago with her husband, who started an engineering job in the area.

Richburg, who grew up in North Carolina, said the Wild West Show reminded her of Ghost Town in the Sky, a Wild West-themed amusement park in Maggie Valley, North Carolina.

“They had something like this,” she said. “It was pretty neat.”

The Sisters Wild West Show continues Sunday with four performances starting at noon.
