• Deschutes Trails Coalition received $60,000 from local businesses, including REI, Mt. Bachelor, Sunriver Resort and FootZone, for its inaugural small projects grant program for trail-related projects within the Deschutes National Forest. Projects include public education and outreach, ADA-accessible bridge installments, trail management and maintenance, elk habitat protection and trail signs and marking. Project work will be completed by September 2019.

• Cascades Academy has been named among the 2018 best nonprofits to work for in Oregon by Oregon Business Magazine. The rankings were based on the confidential input of employees regarding benefits, management, trust, work environment and career development.

• Lava Express Car Wash, formerly the Hertz Car Sales and Car Care Center, has opened at 2025 NE Highway 20. A grand opening to be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., will offer free car washes and charter membership rates.
