College notes
• Kendall Yvonne Simpson, of Redmond, received a master’s degree in teaching from Eastern Oregon University following the spring 2018 semester.
Teen feats
• Ethan Reed of Troop 18, in Bend, earned the rank of Eagle Scout Aug. 23. Ethan and volunteers spent 139.5 hours working on his Eagle project consisting of constructing an outdoor learning area at Pine Ridge Elementary, where he attended elementary school. They constructed benches with bases from entire logs, put wood chips under the benches and made a bulletin board for the teachers. Ethan is a junior at Summit High School and is the son of Mark and Charlotte Reed of Bend.
Youth notes
• Hannah Darby, a sixth-grader from Three Sisters Adventist Christian School in Bend, was one of 13 students to win a calendar art contest celebrating Oregon’s many agricultural and natural resource goods sponsored by the Oregon Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation. Hannah was selected from more than 2,000 entries statewide and received $50 and a certificate. Hannah is the daughter of Mirta and John Darby, both of Redmond.
FAN notes
• Family Access Network has received a $8,000 grant from Trust Management Services LLC to be used to connect disadvantaged children and family members in Central Oregon to essential services such as nutritious food, health care, adequate clothing and stable housing.
Foundation notes
• Rodney Cook, certified financial planner and director of financial planning at Rosell Wealth Management has been voted to Central Oregon Community College Foundation’s investment committee and is responsible for overseeing the investable assets of the foundation. The COCC Foundation provides funds and fosters relationships to support students, programs and capital improvements.
