The ice cream store at Juniper Junction, Smith Rock State Park lost a loyal customer on July 10, 2018. Her smile will be missed on the porch bench of one of her favorite places and the Huckleberry and Chocolate ice cream will never taste quite as good. Donna Egland died at home with friends and family in Terrebonne, Oregon, after living an enriched full life travelling the world with her loving husband, Gerry. Parkinson’s tried to slow her down, but she resisted and still enjoyed antique car meets and tours until the end.
Donna Louise McKeen was born to parents, Edward and Blanche McKeen in Portland, Oregon. Her ancestors include a signer of the Declaration of Independence and pioneers that traveled west on the Oregon Trail settling in Currinsville, OR, in 1842. Donna attended Beaumont grade school and Grant High School where she was a proud Generals cheer leader. She worked at Hyster company where she met her husband, Gerry Egland, and they married in 1976. They moved for work to Danville. Illinois. then back to Portland. and then retired in Terrebonne for the last 26 years.
Donna is survived by her husband, Gerry, her four sons – Kerry, Chris, George and Rich, and Gerry’s daughter, Lori and son Patrick; as well as 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Donna’s love of her and Gerry’s families will never be forgotten.
A celebration of Donna’s life will be held September 23rd at The Old Church McMenamins in Wilsonville at 2:00 p.m.
The following poem was written by Donna’s neighbor, John Keegan, on the day of her death.
My Pal
Hand in Hand
We have walked this land
And traveled near
and far…
We promised until
This time That we would
never part…
And so we part with
Heavy heart.
There is so much
More to see …
I know it’s not the end.
It’s not all that it can be…
So hand in hand we will
See the sights if you
Will wait for me.
