1934-2018
Jim Martin Goodson, Sr. passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 29, 2018.
Jim was born on September 8, 1934, in Walla Walla, Washington, to George Marion Harold Goodson and Marie Della Phipps Goodson, the second of four children.
Jim attended school in Prineville, Oregon, where he formed lifelong friendships, and met the love of his life, Vivian Lenore Preas. They married on October 13, 1953, in Austin, Texas, after enlisting in the United States Air Force. Jim and Viv were stationed throughout the United States and France, and created a legacy with their six children. The strength of family and friends was instilled in our most amazing family by the love of our parents.
In 1972, Jim retired from the United States Air Force after 21 years of service and moved the family to Bend, Oregon, where he worked as a carpenter. In 1976, Jim began Goodson Construction in Madras, Oregon, with Viv by his side and their three boys and son-in-law, Donnie, working alongside him. While in Madras, Jim and Viv were involved in establishing the Buff Boosters, and Jim spent a number of years on the Fair Board.
Jim and Viv retired and relocated to Mesa, Arizona, joining dear friends at Carriage Manor. Viv passed away in 2006 and in 2008, Jim entered into a brief marriage with Carla (Chris) Wahlberg.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian; parents, Marie and Otto Hudson; siblings, Frances Johnson, Della Warren , John Hudson; mother and father-in-law, Pearl (Bennett) and Fritz Preas; son-in-law, Mark Ernest Simpson; nephew, Tony Warren ; and grandchildren, Taylor James and Zachary Allan King. Jim is survived by his children, Jim Martin Goodson, Jr. (Letty), Pamella Anne Harris (Donnie), Andrea Lea Simpson, Ken Goodson (Laurie), Scott Andrew Goodson, and Paula Lynn King (Chuck). Also surviving Jim are his 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
We would like to thank Crismon Peaks Assisted Living for the loving care given to our Dad, as well as Hospice at Home. Dad is now dancing with our Mom and has passed the torch on to us Goodson Kids to continue the legacy they built.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on October 20, 2018, at Carriage Manor in Mesa, Arizona. Jim and Viv will be interred together at the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona.
