Meth-laced candy — Authorities said the parents of trick-or-treaters in Aloha got sick after eating methamphetamine-laced Halloween candy. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded Thursday to a home in Aloha when they got a call of adults feeling ill after eating candy. Authorities said the parents and two children went trick-or-treating near their home Wednesday in northern Aloha and that the adults ate Sour Patch Kids candy that had been collected. The parents say the candy appeared to be fully sealed. Deputies said tests on the candy showed the presence of meth. The candy was seized and placed into evidence by the deputies. The adults were taken to a hospital for evaluation. The sheriff’s office has received no other reports of Halloween candy that has been tampered with.
Trailhead incident — Authorities said a deputy fired shots at a man who tried to run him over at a trailhead parking lot in the Columbia River Gorge. Hood River Sheriff’s Deputy George Economou was walking toward a vehicle in the parking lot of the Mitchell Point Trailhead west of Hood River at about 1:30 a.m. Monday when the vehicle began moving. Oregon State Police said the driver backed out of the parking spot, drove around the lot and then drove at Economou. Police said Economou fired several rounds at the vehicle, which then crashed into his patrol car and went down an embankment. Police say 50-year-old Lonnie Stinnett of Garibaldi was not injured. Deputies took him into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence and other charges. The Columbia Gorge Major Crimes Team is investigating.
