Guest Column: A ceasefire in Gaza will not produce a lasting peace

Apparently, there are some adults who think that Santa Claus does exist. They want to believe in peace so badly that they think that a Gaza ceasefire will produce a permanent and lasting peace. I, too, would love to see a permanent peace, but I’m a lot more realistic about how to achieve it. I was in Israel in the late 1970s and know that they have a strong pro-peace, movement.

The irony is that the kibbitzim near the border of Gaza were there precisely for the purposes of promoting peace, creating joint cultural and educational opportunities, and that the music festival was there to celebrate, peace and love, yet they were brutally, attacked, raped, and kidnapped. These victims were neither soldiers, nor far right extremists. They were civilians, who dedicated themselves to peaceful coexistence with their neighbors, which stands in stark contrast to their terrorist neighbors who reveal that they will not tolerate any Jews in the land.

Dr. Einat Wilf, an academic and author, clearly explains that the world needs to take most Palestinians at their word and face value. They don’t believe in a two-state solution, they only believe in only one land, which is another homophobic, misogynistic Islamic sharia state amidst 28 other similar Islamic states. They seek to eradicate the one democratic, Jewish state, in all of the middle east, and indeed, in all of the world. The world has falsely bought into their narrative that Israel is an oppressive, colonial apartheid state, and that the 28 surrounding Arab countries are the epitome of free and open modern civilization. Boy, do I have a bridge in Brooklyn that I can sell you.

The senior Hamas leader Ghazi Hamad has recently said that he will attack Israel again, again, and again, yet the cease-fire folks don’t take him at his word, and would leave Israel vulnerable to future heinous attacks. Worse yet, they envision a world with an intact terrorist Hamas! Even though many of the cease-fire folks are nominally, Jewish, they and their cohorts care very little for the safety Of Jews and therefore, leave themselves suspect, as anti-semitic. would assert that if you ask them directly, they would say they don’t believe in the state of Israel.

Furthermore, it is interesting that these folks want to just concentrate on Palestine and are blissfully, unaware of the geo-politics involving Iran, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen. They ignore Iran’s hegemonic desires both regionally and it’s long-term desire to spread infitada and Jihad through the whole western world! The West needs to incentivize the building blocks of peace, promote an educational system which shows Palestinian children cooperation with Israelis, and a religious framework which allows for tolerance.

As proverb says, “Ignorance is bliss!” Fortunately, there are many of us that have grown up and recognized that Santa Claus does not exist.
