Report: Raiders Make Decision on QB Jimmy Garoppolo

The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to cut quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo on Wednesday, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini. The reported move comes just hours after the franchise agreed to sign Gardner Minshew to a two-year deal and days after after the team released signal-caller Brian Hoyer.

The Raiders signed Garoppolo to a three-year, $67.5 million deal in March 2023 to be the franchise’s new quarterback, but the experiment crashed and burned. Garoppolo struggled to start the season and was benched in favor of Aidan O’Connell. Garoppolo led the league with nine interceptions in seven games at the time of his benching.

Garoppolo threw for 1,205 yards and seven touchdowns in those seven games and was suspended last month for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy. As a result, he’s slated to miss the first two games of the 2024 season.

Jimmy Garoppolo signed a three-year pact with the Las Vegas Raiders last year, but his tenure with the team reportedly already is over.

Las Vegas finished 2023 with an 8–9 record and will have three quarterbacks on its roster—O’Connell, Hoyer and Anthony Bron Jr.—after the reported move goes through.
