Police have released the names of the man who was killed and the woman injured in a police shooting on Interstate 5 in Linn County on Sunday.

Cameron James Bielman, 30, died after a shootout with law enforcement, and Yasmina Destinee Teal, also 30, was wounded.

Bielman and Teal had fled in a black Honda Civic at around 3 p.m. Sunday after being “involved” in a shooting in Coburg that injured a man, said the Albany Police Department, which is investigating the police shooting.

Sheriff’s deputies from Linn and Lane counties and Oregon State troopers chased Bielman and Teal on I-5 until the suspects’ Honda crashed near exit 226 after it ran over spike strips put down by law enforcement.

“Gunfire came from the Honda and deadly force was used by two Linn County deputies and four Oregon State troopers,” Albany police said in a statement. Bielman died at the scene. Teal was taken to a local hospital with “crash and gunshot injuries that are non-life-threatening.”

No officers were injured.

Bielman was convicted of methamphetamine possession, theft and criminal mischief in 2019, court records show. He faced robbery and drug charges last year and was declared a “fugitive from justice.”

Teal has been convicted of theft charges.

All involved deputies and troopers have been put on leave, as per protocol. Their names will be released later.

Albany police ask any witnesses to the pursuit and shooting on I-5 to contact the investigation team at 541-917-7686.

The Oregon State Police Major Crimes Team is investigating the Coburg shooting that prompted the police chase.
