For the second consecutive year, the Ridgeview baseball team advanced to the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs after taking down No. 14 Corvallis 5-1 Tuesday evening in Redmond.

Junior Logan Nakamura pitched a gem, throwing a complete game and allowing only four hits and zero earned runs, while striking out nine batters as Ridgeview won its 10th straight. The third-seeded Ravens (23-5 overall) are headed to the quarterfinals with a home matchup against No. 6 Wilsonville Friday at 4:30 p.m.

The Intermountain Conference champions never trailed against the Spartans after freshman Finn Chambers’ RBI single in the second inning.

Ridgeview extended its lead with a three-run third inning on an RBI triple from Nakamura and RBI singles from junior Olen Nofziger and sophomore Ryden Nakamura.

As a team, Ridgeview showed solid plate discipline, drawing eight walks and collecting seven hits while only having five strikeouts.

Class 5A first round

No. 7 Mountain View 10, No. 10 Ashland 4

With a combined nine runs in the third and fourth innings, Mountain View (18-9) dug itself out of a 2-1 early deficit to win at home against Ashland and advance to the second round of the playoffs Friday at No. 2 Thurston, the defending state champions.

Junior Ethan Bruce drove in four runs and senior Caden Illingworth drove in two runs on two hits to lift the Cougars past the Grizzlies.

The bullpen came up big for Mountain View on Tuesday, with junior Brady Kennedy throwing four innings of shutout ball.

The southpaw struck out five batters and gave up a single hit in relief.

No. 8 Summit 12, No. 9 Crater 3

The bats came alive for Summit on Tuesday to blow past Crater at home and advance to the second round to play at No. 1 Canby on Friday.

The Storm (14-12) tallied 16 hits, with eight of them going for extra bases in the nine-run victory, while three pitchers combined to strike out 11 Comet batters.

Junior Alex Via hit three doubles and drove in three runs at the plate while pitching three innings and allowing just one unearned run. Freshman Andrew Guthrie, senior Finn Edwards and senior Luke Lion also hit doubles in the game, while junior Carter Hess hit a two-run home run in the win.

Hess and Guthrie threw three four innings of relief, with Guthrie striking out all six batters that he faced.

No. 6 Wilsonville 2, No. 11 Bend 1

It was a pitchers’ duel between Wilsonville senior Justin Schramm and Bend High junior Fischer Barber. Both pitchers went the distance and combined to strike out 17 batters and allow only one earned run.

But the sixth-seeded Wildcats pulled off the walk-off win on their home field to advance past the Lava Bears (11-17).

Junior Tanner Cuevas Cuevas scored on a wild pitch in the first inning for Bend’s only run. Barber allowed only two hits and one earned run while striking out eight.

After each team scored a run in the first inning, the game remained scoreless until the seventh inning when junior Drew Hall laid down a bunt to drive home the winning run.

Wilsonville will travel to Central Oregon to take on No. 3 Ridgeview Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Class 4A first round

No. 9 North Bend 14, No. 8 Crook County 3

Giving up free passes proved to be the downfall for Crook County against North Bend in the first-round of the Class 4A state playoffs.

Four Cowboys’ pitchers combined to walk 18 Bulldog batters in the six-inning game Tuesday in Prineville.

Senior Hayden Forman, junior Gage Martinez and junior Ethan Lamphere all drove in runs in the three-run first inning for the Cowboys (19-7).
