The road to a berth in the state title game came to an end for the Ridgeview baseball team Tuesday evening in Springfield.
The third-seeded Ravens, the champions of the Intermountain Conference and winners of 24 games this spring, fell to No. 2 Thurston, the defending state champions, 7-3 in the Class 5A semifinals.
After falling behind three runs in the first inning, the Ravens clawed their way back into games with runs in the second and third innings.
Senior Mason Scott hit a solo home run in the second inning to bring the Colts’ lead down to 3-1. Then in the third inning, with two runners on, junior Logan Nakamura singled home freshman Diego Lopez to make it a one-run game.
But that is as close as the Ravens would get to taking down the champs.
As soon as Ridgeview cut the lead to 3-2, Thurston responded with its second three-run inning of the game after Connor Molony hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the third.
Sophomore Aiden Scott singled home junior Olen Nofziger in the sixth inning to make it a 6-3.
