- Laura Jane Grace, at right, will bring her band The Mississippi Medicals at Bend's Domino Room in April.
Just last week in Central Oregon, a cool show featuring good (but admittedly niche) bands canceled a day or two before it was supposed to happen. One of the bands posted to Instagram that it was because the venue didn’t sell enough presale tickets, so the plug was pulled.
The lesson is one that we have shared before, but many people don’t absorb: One of the best ways you can support your favorite band or venue or promoter is to purchase presale tickets rather than waiting until the night of the show to buy at the door. Doing so gives them peace of mind about the show in question; a sense for how many people are going to show up so they can staff appropriately; and confidence in booking future shows you may enjoy. So buy presale tickets when you can!
With that said, here are three recently announced local concerts happening next year:
On Feb. 13, the Andrew Marlin Stringband will play The Belfry in Sisters. Marlin is best known as one of the founders of the gorgeous folk duo Watchhouse, and he has played mandolin on recordings for Zach Bryan and Tyler Childers, among others. He’ll return to Sisters as part of a tour behind his latest solo album “Phthalo Blue.” Learn more and buy tickets at belfryevents.com.
On Feb. 15, the fast-rising jam band Eggy will play Volcanic Theatre Pub in Bend. The Connecticut band played Redmond’s inaugural Cascade Equinox festival in 2023, where they incited a pretty solid dance party with their funky, catchy sound. You can hear their new album “Waiting Game” (and dozens of live recordings) at eggylivemusic.bandcamp.com. Learn more and buy tickets at volcanictheatre.com.
On April 21, Laura Jane Grace & The Mississippi Medicals will play the the Domino Room in Bend. Grace is best known as the frontperson of the Florida punk band Against Me, and more recently she has been making rootsy punk-rock under her own name. She’ll be bringing two excellent openers with her to Bend: Australian pop-rocker Alex Lahey and Noun from Philly. Learn more and buy tickets at midtownballroom.com.
