Loy Anderson Cole of Grants Pass died May 1 of an extended illness. He was 89.

Mr. Cole was born Feb. 3, 1917, in Mitchell. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1935. He attended Oregon State College’s School of Forestry. He married Ruth Redden in Corvallis in 1941.
Mr. Cole worked for the Ochoco Ranger Station in 1941, and in 1942 began working for the Oregon State Police. He was later assigned to the game division in Prineville, and also did game work in Bend.
By his 1975 retirement, he had served as sergeant, commander and lieutenant of the State Police office in Grants Pass. He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder.
He was also a member of the Grants Pass Lions Club and a past master of Masonic Lodge No. 84. He enjoyed gardening, playing cribbage and reading Western novels.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, William of King City and Honolulu and Jerry of Williams; a daughter, Loyraine Miller of Grants Pass; a brother, Dale of Bend; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
