Thomas P. ”Andy” Anderson

Feb. 10, 1931 April 14, 2001

Thomas P. ”Andy” Anderson of Prineville died of natural causes Saturday. He was 70.

Viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday and at 2 and 4 p.m. Friday at Redmond Memorial Chapel. The memorial will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Prineville.

Mr. Anderson was born Feb. 10, 1931, in Huntsville, Ark.

He married Barbara Rudolph in 1951 in Terra Bella, Calif., and moved to Central Oregon in 1969.

Mr. Anderson served in the Navy from 1949 until he was honorably discharged in 1951. He was a machinist’s mate first class.

He worked as a machinist and logger for many years and retired in 1990.

Mr. Anderson was an active member of Jehovah’s Witnesses Congregation in Prineville.

He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, hunting, fishing, reading, traveling and camping.

Survivors include his wife of Prineville; two sons, Tom of Santa Maria, Calif., and Mike of Prineville; four daughters, Paulette Darway of Arroyo Grande, Calif., Cindy Lampe of Creswell, Tracy Deleo and Mellisa Akins, both of Grover Beach, Calif.; two brothers, Bill of Porterville, Calif., and Larry of Rogers, Ark.; one sister, Bonnie Hutchinson of Springdale, Ark.; two step-brothers, Dale Long of Sallisaw, Okla., and Ronnie Long of Louisiana; 20 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses Crooked River Congregation in Prineville.

Thomas F. Kiernan

May 4, 1920 April 11, 2001

Thomas F. Kiernan of Prineville died of natural causes Wednesday. He was 80.

A memorial service was held Saturday at Prineville Funeral Home.

Mr. Kiernan was born May 4, 1920, in White Plains, N.Y., to Thomas and Theresa (McCormac) Kiernan. He grew up and attended schools in White Plains. He attended Bucknell University in Pennsylvania, where he played football and received a degree in business in 1947.

He served in the Navy during World War II as a flight instructor at the Pensacola, Fla., Naval Base.

He married Carolyn Stroop on Sept. 29, 1944, in Pensacola, Fla. She died in 1981. He later married Bonnie Smith in 1982, in Rapid City, S.D.

Mr. Kiernan lived all over the United States. He moved from Boise, Idaho to Prineville in 1992.

Survivors include three daughters, Valerie Gervais of Fox River Grove, Ill., and Christine Goddard and Virginia ”Ginger” Kiernan, both of Union City, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Donna Renner and Jody Todd, both of Cottonwood, Idaho; one stepson, Mark Shepard of Newport; one sister, Agnes Kiernan of New York; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, parents, one brother, one sister and one great-grandchild.

John Thomas Leamen

June 23, 1925 April 16, 2001

John Thomas Leamen of Redmond died Monday of natural causes. He was 75.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Autumn Funerals in Redmond. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Dayspring Christian Center. Burial will be private at Redmond Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Leamen was born June 23, 1925, in Harrisburg, Neb., to Harold and Lydia (Liebsack) Leamen.

He served in the Navy for three years, three months and three days.

Mr. Leamen married Clara Kniep July 14, 1946, in Byron Neb. They moved to Oregon in 1949, Powell Butte in 1952 and then to Redmond in 1962 where they remained. She died in December of 1999.

He worked as a farmer and at Redmond Fertilizer Plant which later became Midstate Fertilize. He retired from the company.

Mr. Leamen enjoyed traveling in the summer with Clara up into British Columbia, Canada and Alaska. He also enjoyed camping, hunting, gardening and the outdoors.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Stout of John Day and Linda Vargas of Bend; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons and his parents.

Florence Rosamond (Raycraft) Kamisky

Nov. 1, 1914 April 16, 2001

Florence Rosamond (Raycraft) Kamisky of Gresham died Monday at Angels Adult Foster Care. She was 86.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Lane Memorial Gardens in Eugene.

Mrs. Kamisky was born Nov. 1, 1914, in Burns to George and Florence (Copeland) Raycraft. The family made their home in Burns, where she began her elementary education. As a young girl, they moved to Bend where she completed her schooling. She began her career as a florist in Bend.

She married Kilten Kamisky in 1936 in Bend and they moved to Eugene in 1961. He died in 1990 and she remained in Eugene for two years and then moved to Portland to be close to family.

Mrs. Kamisky was active at First Baptist Church in Eugene and at Camp Harlow.

She enjoyed sewing, flowers and gardening.

Survivors include her two sons, Sterling of Denver and Gary of Boring; two brothers, Charles Raycraft of Bend and George Raycraft of West Linn; and one granddaughter.

Margaret M. ‘Peg’ Hoffman

Dec. 15, 1907 April 14, 2001

Margaret M. ”Peg” Hoffman of Ojai, Calif., died Saturday. She was 93.

A private memorial service will be held at Deschutes Memorial Gardens. A gathering for all of her friends will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the family home in Bend on Loma Vista Drive.

Mrs. Hoffman was born Dec. 15, 1907, in Hanford, Calif. She graduated from Oregon State Agricultural College in 1930, where she met her husband, Charles ”Chuck” Hoffman. They had been married 60 years when he died in 1992.

She and her husband opened Hoffman’s Gifts in Brookings in the early 1960s and later moved the business to Bend in 1970 to the Bend Plaza. It remained there for several years.

Mrs. Hoffman enjoyed flowers, fresh crab and fast boats.

Survivors include her sister, Klea Filson of Chico, Calif.; one son, Charles Jr., of Redding, Calif.; and two daughters, Barbara of Oak View, Calif., and Linda of Seattle.

H. Frances Day

Dec. 19, 1911 April 15, 2001

H. Frances Day of Clackamas died Sunday. She was 89.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. today at Keizer Funeral Chapel. A rosary prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Keizer Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Keizer and interment will be at 1 p.m. at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Mrs. Day was born Dec. 19, 1911, in Tacoma, Wash.

She married Richard M. Day Dec. 5, 1936, in Seattle. They moved to Sisters in 1938, they owned and operated Day’s Cafe and Day’s Drug Store. They moved to Gladstone in 1959 and then to Salem in 1960.

Mrs. Day worked for 13 years with the Department of Commerce and retired in 1973.

She was affiliated with St. Edwards Catholic Church and was a past member of the Rebekahs Lodge.

Survivors include her son, Dennis of Clackamas; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Virginia L. (Hardman) Purdy

Dec. 14, 1935 April 13, 2001

Virginia L. (Hardman) Purdy of Bend died Friday. She was 65.

There will be a private graveside service at Pilot Butte Cemetery.

Mrs. Purdy was born Dec. 14, 1935, in Salt Lake City and grew up in Midvale, Utah.

She was a homemaker for most of her life, and raised four children. She then moved to Portland in 1966 and Bend in 1999.

Survivors include her three sons, David and Guy Gann, both of Portland, and Travis Purdy of Richmond, Va.; one daughter, Julie Sands of Bend; six brothers, Bob Martin of Yuma, Ariz., Ivan Hardman of Riverton, Utah, Udell Hardman and Terry Hardman, both of Midvale, Utah, Lynn Hardman of Fairview, Utah, Mike Hardman of Enterprise, Utah; and three sisters, Sharon Brewer of Salt Lake City, Bonnie Clift of Midvale, and Carol Landures of Magna, Utah.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Jeanne C. (Monk) Holeman

May 1, 1912 April 14, 2001

Jeanne C. (Monk) Holeman of Bend died Saturday of natural causes. She was 88.

No service will be held.

Mrs. Holeman was born May 1, 1912, in Athens, Texas.

She married Victor R. Holeman Aug. 17, 1941, in Yuma, Ariz. They moved to Bend in 1975 from San Diego. He died in 1989.

Mrs. Holeman was a member of the local Order of Eastern Star, Chapter No. 109.

Survivors include her daughter, Vicki Sawders of Bend; one sister, Gladys Tyrel of La Mesa, Calif.; and one grandson, William Jon Sawders of Beaverton.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to Central Oregon Hospice.
