Alvie Marion Coffman

Oct. 10, 1914 June 22, 2001

Alvie Marion Coffman of Redmond died Friday. He was 86.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Redmond Kingdom Hall.

Mr. Coffman was born Oct. 10, 1914, in Lost Corner, Ark., to Charley and Ada Coffman. He married Berlie Reeves in 1934, in Arkansas.

They moved to La Pine in 1940. He worked for Shevlin-Hixon as a timber faller and a mechanic. In 1950 he worked for Gilchrist Timber. Then he and his family moved to Eugene where he worked for Mt. June Lumber, Charles Buckle Logging and Ed Lawarence Company. In 1959 he worked for Jack Briscoe Motors and Jim Farleigh Motors in Lakeview. He and his family moved back to Gilchrist in 1967. After retiring in 1976, he helped build 22 houses, including the first all solar home in Madras. He and his family moved to Redmond in 1996.

Mr. Coffman enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family.

Survivors include his wife of Redmond; four sons, Keneth and Dennis of Bend, Terry and Donald of Redmond; two daughters, Janis Strain of Crescent and Lucille Breshears of Redmond; two sisters, Dorothy Knight of Redmond and Edith Fuller of Hattieville, Ark.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great- great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons and three grandsons.

Ellen Florence Alander

Ellen Florence Alander of Prineville died Sunday of natural causes. She was 92.

A memorial service will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday July 7 at 3153 N. Main St., Prineville.

Lafayette ‘Butch’ King

July 3, 1949 June 24, 2001

Lafayette ”Butch” King of Prineville died Sunday of natural causes. He was 51.

A viewing will be held 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Prineville Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Prineville Community Church. Burial will follow the service at Juniper Haven Cemetery.

Mr. King was born July 3, 1949 in Big Fork, Ark., to J.D. and Edna (Bates) King. He grew up and attended school in Springfield, graduating from Thurston High School in 1967. He married Gloria Hill on Dec. 21, 1967 in Springfield.

They moved to Prineville in 1968. He worked for C.O.I.N., now called American Pine Products.

Mr. King enjoyed trail riding on horse back, hunting, fishing and raising miniature horses. He was a member of the Northwest Miniature Horse Club and the High Desert Miniature Horse Club of Central Oregon.

Survivors include his wife of Prineville; his mother of Springfield; three daughters, Bobbie of Bend, and Jennifer and Kimberley Burge of Prineville; three brothers, Clinton of Coburg, Danny and Jimmie of Springfield; one sister, Sharon Dickens of Eugene; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Ina Fay (Rauch) Thornburg

Ina Fay (Rauch) Thornburg of Albany died Friday of natural causes. She was 79.

A private graveside service will be held for her. Burial will follow the service.

Mrs. Thornburg was born on Dec. 25, 1921, in Lexington to Henry and Natalie (Witzski) Rauch. She married Forrest ”Pine” Thornburg on Sept. 16, 1946, in Hermistion.

The couple moved to Eastern Oregon where they farmed. In 1980 they moved to Prineville. She moved to Albany in 1994 to be closer to family.

Mrs. Thornburg enjoyed playing Bingo and taking care of children. She was affiliated with the Prineville Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her son, Bill of Pendleton; two daughters, Linda Hightower of Prineville and Phyllis Barham of Albany; one brother, Henry of Athena; five grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two sisters, Edna Fetsch and Mary Hartman.

Billy D. Chapman

July 14, 1927 June 22, 2001

Billy D. Chapman of Crooked River Ranch died Friday of natural causes. He was 73.

A private grave site service will be held for him.

Mr. Chapman was born on July 14, 1927, in Hamilton, Ill., to Lloyd and Lucille (Dun) Chapman. He married Ruth on Oct. 26, 1979, in California.

He served in the army for 20 years. He did three tours of duty in Korea. He worked for the Criminal Investigation Department, in the forensic lab. He was a captain in the Army Reserve.

Mr. Chapman has lived in Central Oregon for 20 years on the Crooked River Ranch.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sandra Holden and Linda Deavila of Redmond; and four grandchildren.

Margaret ‘Maggie’ Ann (Schlosser) Linden

Margaret ”Maggie” Ann (Schlosser) Linden was born on Sept. 14, 1955, in Altadena, Calif., to Louis and Marjorie (Garrison) Schlosser. She grew up and attended school in Pasadena, Calif. She graduated from Redlands High School in 1973.

She moved to Central Oregon in 1995 and to Prineville in Jan. 2000.

Mrs. Linden enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, fishing, skiing, crafts, growing and drying flowers and gardening.

Survivors include her son, Travis Purdue of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; her father of Guadalajara, Mexico; three brothers, Louis Schlosser of Hollywood, Calif., Robert Schlosser of San Luis Obispo, Calif. and Michael Schlosser of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; three sisters, Lauren Magnan of Nemours, France, Diane Johnson of La Pine and Toni Tipper of San Luis Obispo, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Marie Ellen (Tetherow) Shirley

July 20, 1920 June 24, 2001

Marie Ellen (Tetherow) Shirley of Redmond, died Sunday of natural causes. She was 80.

At her request there will be only a private family service.

Mrs. Shirley was born July 20 1920, to Jess and Mabel Tetherow. She was raised on their homestead at Tetherow Bridge. The Tetherow Bridge and Crossing area are named after her family with the Tetherow house being the oldest continually occupied house in Deschutes County. She married Francis Ellsworth Shirley on May 3, 1940.

She worked for Ponderosa Moulding. She spent most of her married life in California, moving back to Central Oregon in 1961. She then worked as a legal secretary.

Mrs. Shirley enjoyed gardening, reading and putting together jigsaw puzzles.

Survivors include her two sons, Mark and David of Redmond; two daughters, Kathleen Sala of Bend and Susan Bohme of Roseburg; one sister, Marje Stangl of Sedro Wooley, Wash.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one grandchild and sister, Jean Downs.

Kenneth Albert Dudley

March 26, 1925 June 16, 2001

Kenneth Albert Dudley of Redmond died Saturday of natural causes. He was 76.

No formal services will be held. His urn will be placed at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Mr. Dudley was born on March 26, 1925, in Montana to Albert and Margaret (McDonald) Dudley. He grew up in Shaniko and Antelope.

He was an Army veteran of WWII with the 1st Armored Division. He was a Bend resident for 40 years before moving to Redmond. He worked at various lumber mills.

Mr. Dudley enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his four sons, Jeff and Richard Fassett Jr. of Redmond, Steven of Tucson, Ariz., and Kenny of New Jersey; three brothers, Charles of Bend, Harvey of Sweet Home and David of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Laura Snelson of Bend and Betty Torkelson of Seattle; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
