Ava (Clayton) Marcy

Aug. 8, 1908 July 24, 2001

Ava (Clayton) Marcy of Bend died Tuesday of natural causes. She was 92.

A private entombment will be held for her.

Mrs. Marcy was born Aug. 8, 1908, in Wilbur, Wash., to Roll and Lula (Worden) Clayton. She married Carl Scherpf on Aug. 10, 1927, in Vancouver, Wash.

She worked for the Telephone Office in Washougal, Wash. and then in Forest Grove, as a welder in the shipyards during World War II. She then was Head Housekeeper at the Masonic/Eastern Star Home in Forest Grove. She moved to St. Helens in 1972.

Mrs. Marcy married Lewis Marcy on March 16, 1985.

Survivors include her son, Rev. Marvin Scherpf of Bend; one daughter, Carlene Clore of Columbia City; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, foster son, sister and two brothers.

Betty Jo Raether

Betty Jo Raether of Redmond died Friday. She was 72.

Viewings will be held from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, both at Niswonger, Reynolds and Tabor Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at noon Saturday at Tumalo Pioneer Cemetery.

Mrs. Raether was born Dec. 29, 1928, in Hobart, Okla., to Andy and Ruby (Bradford) Cole. She married Robert Raether on June 30, 1949, in Reno, Nev.

She and her family moved to Tumalo in 1964.

They started the Jo-Bob Appaloosa Ranch.

Mrs. Raether helped start the Central Oregon Appaloosa Association.

She was a member of the Tumalo Grange and enjoyed gardening, sewing, painting and reading.

Survivors include her two sons, Robert of Bend and Bradley of Grants Pass; one daughter, Candace Fender of Madras; mother of Grants Pass; three sisters, Fern Armstrong of Upper Lake, Calif., Ann Harper of Lower Lake, Calif., and Marsha Saiz of Klamath Falls; two brothers, Harold Cole of Napa, Calif., and Gordon Cole of Texas; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, father, brother and two sisters.

Lee Wayne Reinhart

Lee Wayne Reinhart of Bend died Friday of complications due to a stroke. He was 72.

A celebration of life video tribute service will be held at 2 p.m. at New Hope Church.

Mr. Reinhart was born Dec. 20, 1928, in Foxhome, Minn., to Lee and Gladys Reinhart.

Mr. Reinhart graduated from Bend Senior High School in 1946 and from Pacific University in 1951.

He married Annette McFarlin on Dec. 23, 1950.

Mr. Reinhart taught school in Prineville for one year. He then worked for JC Penney Company as a store manager.

He enjoyed singing, boxing, fishing, camping, traveling and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of Bend; three sons, Jeffrey of Cortez, Colo., Douglas of Ogien, Utah, and Roland of Palm Springs, Calif.; one daughter, Debra Asakawa of Portland; two brothers, Roger and Arnold, both of Bend; and three sisters, Virginia Hamilton-Cherry and Beverly Hamby, both of Bend and Bernadine Besson of Chula Vista, Calif.

He was preceded in death by a brother and sister.

Esther (Zook) Dodd

Esther (Zook) Dodd of Bend died Wednesday of natural causes. She was 94.

Memorial services are pending.

Mrs. Dodd was born Jan. 6, 1907, near Gray, in the Oklahoma Territory. She married Ralph Dodd in May of 1930.

She owned and operated R.A. Dodd Insurance Agency. She retired to La Pine in 1987 and moved to Bend in 1994.

Mrs. Dodd was a member of the La Pine Senior Center and La Pine Quilters. She enjoyed gardening and traveling.

Survivors include three sons, Del of McCall, Idaho, Jerry of San Diego, Calif., and Laurin of Idaho Falls, Idaho; seven daughters, Elaine Williams of Loma Linda, Calif., Rosalie of Portland, Marietta Qual of La Pine, Verna Birch of Sherwood, Esther Culberston of Gresham, Donna Brown of Oregon City and Sharon Haug of Snohomish, Wash.; 27 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband.
