Opal W. (Cone) Hoaglund

Opal W. (Cone) Hoaglund of Sunriver died Saturday of natural causes. She was 84.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sunriver Christian Fellowship/ Holy Trinity Church in Sunriver.
Mrs. Hoaglund was born April 30, 1917, in Arthur County, Neb., to Robert and LaVina Cone. She married Ernest Hoaglund on April 6, 1936.
She was a homemaker. She moved to Sunriver a year ago to be near her daughter.
Mrs. Hoaglund was affiliated with the Lectionary Bible Study Class and Brady United Methodist Church. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #192.
Survivors include her son, John of Citrus Heights, Calif.; one daughter, Betty of Sunriver; two sisters, Dorothy Law of Arvada, Calif., and Irma Johnson of Gothenburg, Neb.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and four sisters.

Andrew ‘Andy’ L. Rugloski

Andrew ”Andy” L. Rugloski of Bend died Friday of natural causes. He was 89.
A viewing will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday at Niswonger-Reynolds and Tabor Funeral Chapel. A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Niswonger-Reynolds and Tabor Funeral Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:15 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Mr. Rugloski was born Nov. 4, 1911, in Stafford Springs, Conn. He married Mae LaMere in 1937, in Balsam Lake, Wis.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged.
Mr. Rugloski worked as an advertising typographer. He then owned and operated a resort in Grey Eagle, Minn.
He moved to Bend in 1983.
Mr. Rugloski was affiliated with St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of Bend; four sons, Robert of Forest Lake, Minn., Raymond of Florissanat, Colo., Richard of Charlottesville, Va., and Paul of Bend; two daughters, Joan Cranmer of Little Rock, Ark., and Mary Parker of Cedaredge, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Wilfred E. Jossy

Wilfred E. Jossy of Hammond/Gearhart died Friday. He was 85.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Episcopal Church in Astoria.
Mr. Jossy was born June 1, 1916, in Hoskinsim, Wash., to William and Evelyn (Emmett) Jossy. He married Gerri Dickman in August of 1939.
He was mayor of Bend and lived in Bend between 1940-1958. He was the former president of the Oregon Trucking Association and Western Highway Institute.
Mr. Jossy was a member of the Oregon Marine Board.
Survivors include his wife of Gearhart; one daughter, Roberta Tichenor of Portland; and two sisters, Margret Bane and Catherine Burchfield of Oak Grove.
He was preceded in death by a son.

Norma Rose (Herr) Jensen

Norma Rose (Herr) Jensen of Prineville died Monday of natural causes. He was 73.
A viewing will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday of Whispering Pines Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Church of the Nazarene. A burial will follow the service at Juniper Haven Cemetery.
Ms. Jensen was born April 11, 1928, in Scoggins Valley to Robert and Ada (Hall) Herr. She moved to Prineville in 1956.
She was a homemaker until April of 1965. She then worked at Coin Millwork until retiring in 1990.
Ms. Jensen enjoyed crocheting, flowers and traveling.
Survivors include her two sons, Alvin and Ed, both of Prineville; one daughter, Patricia Campbell of Prineville; two sisters, Evelyn Clark of Ketchikan, Alaska, and Helen Radford of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, adopted brother and three sisters.

John F. Hardy

John F. Hardy of Madras died Monday. He was 86.
No services will be held.
Mr. Hardy was born March 2, 1915, in Seattle, Wash. He married Ruth.
He was a railroad conductor and retired in 1972.
Mr. Hardy married Gail McNeil on Oct. 1, 1973. He and his family moved to Madras in 1973.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of Madras; two sons, Jim of Anacortes, Wash., and David of Kirkland, Wash.; and two sisters, Alice Shindler of Dayton and Betty Small of Newport, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, parents and two brothers.

Anne S. (Stablein) Haslett

Anne S. (Stablein) Haslett of Bend died Monday of natural causes. She was 80.
No services will be held at her request.
Mrs. Haslett was born Aug. 21, 1921, in Erie, Pa., to Edward and Gertrude Stablein. She married Don Haslett on April 28, 1951, in Oakland, Calif.
She was a homemaker until her child was grown. She then was a movie and television actress and was in the movie ”American Graffiti”.
Mrs. Haslett moved to Sunriver in 1991 and to Bend in 1998.
She was a member of the Screen Actors’ Guild. She enjoyed gardening, golfing and traveling.
Survivors include her husband of Bend; one son, David of San Francisco, Calif.; and one brother, Edward Stablein III of Erie, Pa.

Barton E. Garred

Barton E. Garred of Bend died Monday of natural causes. He was 69.
No services will be held at this time.
Mr. Garred was born Dec. 10, 1931, in Milton-Freewater. He graduated from Bend Senior High School in 1949.
He served in the U.S. Army at the Officers Candidate School. He was honorably discharged as a Captain.
Mr. Garred owned and operated an insurance agency in Reedsport. Then owned and operated Boardman Insurance in Boardman.
Survivors include his son, Scott of Bend; three daughters, Sandy of Eugene, Susie of Medford and Mary of Kansas; mother, Ruth (Cornelison) Garred of Bend; and several grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Glen Matt Asher
Dec. 14, 1913 Sept. 2, 2001
Glen Matt Asher of Bend died Sept. 2 of natural causes. He was 87.
A private memorial service will be held for him.
Mr. Asher was born Dec. 14, 1913, in Cottage Grove to Warren and Myrtle Asher. He married Jeanne Blake on December 24, 1938.
He served in the U.S. Army in the 10th Mountain Division in World War II. He earned a Bronze Star as a supply Sargent in northern Italy.
Mr. Asher co-owned and operated the original Mountain Shop in Portland and the one at Government Camp. Then he and his wife started the Barlow Trail Furniture Company.
Mr. Asher was a master craftsman in both wood and plastic and retired as Vice-President of Western Wood Mfg, the largest water-ski company in the world. He was also a consultant for Gerber Knives and Earth Stove.
He moved to Bend in September of 2000.
Mr. Asher was a member of the Mount Hood Ski Patrol and Mazamas and Wy’est Climbers. He climbed Mount Hood 59 times and was one of the few people to climb all three Sisters in a 24-hour period.
He enjoyed mountain climbing, snow skiing, water skiing, hunting, fishing, woodcarving, bonsai, golfing, stain glass crafting and reading.
Survivors include his wife of Bend; two sons, James ”Buzz” of Phoenix, Ariz., and Bruce of Portland; one daughter, Elaine Hagen of Redmond; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
