Barry Henning Slaughter

Barry Henning Slaughter of La Pine died Thursday. He was 68.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Holy Trinity Church on Cottonwood Road in Sunriver.

Mr. Slaughter was born June 22, 1933, in Darien, Conn., to Alfred and Ruth Slaughter. He graduated from Whittenburg University in Springfield, Ohio. He married Marianne Kangas Kehoe on Aug. 9, 2001.

He served in the Marine Corps.

Mr. Slaughter was a master craftsman and builder of furniture. He worked in the automobile industry for 17 years and was manager of the Arnold Irrigation District in Bend for six years. He was a Deschutes County Commissioner from 1992-1996.

He was a member of the Bend Area Planning Commission, Regional Arts Council, Corrections Advisory Committee, Deschutes County Fair Association and Central Oregon Training and Education Facility. He was the President of the Deschutes County Historical Society.

Mr. Slaughter enjoyed spending time with his family, building furniture, community service and planting trees and flowers.

Survivors include his wife of La Pine; two sons, Ben and Garth; two daughters, Ruth and Lindsey; mother; three brothers, Joel, Bill and Terry; two sisters, Marnie and Nonie; and one grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Deschutes County Historical Society or Central Oregon Symphony.

Elizabeth (Ulmer) Conzelmann

July 17, 1917 Oct. 2, 2001

Elizabeth (Ulmer) Conzelmann of Bend died Tuesday. She was 84.

A private burial will be held.

Mrs. Conzelmann was born July 17, 1917, in Racine, Wis. She married Erich Conzelmann on June 29, 1934 in Washington.

She was a homemaker. She lobbied in getting the Oregon Grown Fryer label passed in the Legislature.

Mrs. Conzelmann moved to Bend in 1995 to be near family.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening and music.

Survivors include her two daughters, Nancy Hoefling of Bend and Kathleen Smith of Beaver Creek; one sister, Bertha White of Mesa, Ariz.; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and two sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Society of Central Oregon.

John Blake Davenport

June 26, 1913 Aug. 29, 2001

John Blake Davenport of Prineville died Aug. 29 of natural causes. He was 88.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Prineville with the Rev. Larry Ferguson officiating.

Mr. Davenport was born June 26, 1913, in Mt. Carmel, Ill., to Edward and Daisy Davenport. He attended the University of Oregon. He married Majorie McCulloch on Sept. 10, 1938.

He worked in the shipyards in Portland. When he moved to Bend, he worked for Ries Radio and TV and Healy’s Furniture Store. He and his family then moved to Prineville where he managed Healy’s Furniture Store for 45 years and his wife served as bookkeeper.

Mr. Davenport was affiliated with St. Andrews Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Prineville Elks Lodge, Prineville Lions Club and Prineville Masonic Lodge. He was Lion of the year multiple times.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and doing volunteer work.

Survivors include his wife of Tigard; two sons, David of Spokane, Wash., and Richard of Prineville; three daughters, Sandra of Auburn, Wash., and Linda Rodgers of Tigard; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dorothy

Maxine (Byers) Jeschawitz Albert

Dorothy Maxine (Byers) Jeschawitz Albert of Bend died Sept. 26. She was 77.

No services will be held at her request.

Mrs. Albert was born March 22, 1924, in Decatur, Ill., to Ora ”Merle” and Kathryn ”Kate” (Snider) Byers. She married Ernest Albert on Dec. 9, 1950, in Las Vegas.

She worked as manager of the cosmetic department of the Broadway Hale Department Store in Ventura, Calif., before she retired.

Survivors include her husband of Bend; two daughters, Judy Jeschawitz of Bend and Cathy Albert Selzer of Arroyo Grande, Calif.; one brother, Donald Byers of Woodbridge, Va.; one sister, Arleen Byers of Sylmar, Calif.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Hospice of Bend and La Pine, 1303 NW Galveston, Bend 97701.

Forrest Dale Dunn

Dec. 7, 1918 Oct. 3, 2001

Forrest Dale Dunn of Prineville died Wednesday of natural causes. He was 82.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Juniper Haven Cemetery.

Mr. Dunn was born Dec. 7, 1918, in Albany to Forrest and Grace (Culver) Dunn. He served in the Army as a Bomber Mechanic Sergeant during World War II.

He was a school teacher and worked at Crooked River Elementary School from 1957 to 1975.

Mr. Dunn authored two books about Butte County in Northern California and Oregon. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter.

Survivors include his two sons, Richard of Prineville and Robert Fitzsimmons of Goldendale, Wash.; and five grandchildren.

Virginia Maxine George

April 27, 1919 Oct. 4, 2001

Virginia Maxine George of La Pine died Thursday of natural causes. She was 82.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of La Pine. A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at La Pine Community Cemetery.

Mrs. George was born April 27, 1919, in Lincoln, Neb. She married James George on March 5, 1956, in Reno, Nev.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. George was affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of La Pine. She enjoyed spending time with her family, needle work, photography, camping and animals.

Survivors include her son, John Shiffer of La Pine; 24 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband.
