Stanley ‘Rick’ Ricker Brown

Stanley ”Rick” Ricker Brown of Portland died Oct. 28 by drowning. He was 49.

No service will be held.

He was born May 1, 1952, in Salem to Leo and Gladys (Ricker) Bown.

Survivors include his two sons, Benjamin and Michael, both of Hillsboro; father, Leo of Bend; mother, Gladys Fuscus of Crooked River Ranch; and two brothers, Robert of Jemez Springs, N.M., and Donald of Tucson, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather.

Paul W. Haley

Feb. 3, 1912 Oct. 30, 2001

Paul W. Haley of La Pine died Oct. 30 of natural causes at a local care facility in La Pine. He was 89.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Redmond Memorial Chapel.

Mr. Haley was born Feb. 3, 1912, in Evening Shade, Ark., to Dave and Susie (Black) Haley. He married Agda Holmquist on Jan. 22, 1965, in Sunnyvale, Calif.

He worked as a plant operator for McCloud River Lumber Company. He retired in 1976. He and his family moved to Bend in 1990.

Mr. Haley enjoyed deep sea fishing and visiting the coast.

Survivors include his stepson, Gary Frizelle of Stayton; one stepdaughter, Janet Hingley of Bend; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, six brothers and two sisters.

Albert M. Mayer

Feb. 4, 1919 Nov. 2, 2001

Albert M. Mayer of Bend died Friday of natural causes. He was 82.

A viewing will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Deschutes Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Bend. A graveside service will be held at noon Thursday at Deschutes Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Mayer was born Feb. 4, 1919, in Bethleham, Penn. He married Marie Ritter in 1956 in Las Vegas.

He served in the Army as a Navy inspector on Lockheed Aircrafts. He received the Bronze Star. He landed in Normandy during World War II at the Battle of the Bulge. He retired in 1981.

Mr. Mayer was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1643 and Treasure Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gold panning, nature, animals and military history.

Survivors include his wife of Bend; one son, Andy Anderson of Bend; one daughter, Lynn Kingrey of Bend; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

James ‘Jim’ K. Deming

June 8, 1915 Oct. 30, 2001

James ”Jim” K. Deming of Burns died Oct. 30 of natural causes. He was 86.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at Moon Creek Cemetery.

Mr. Deming was born June 8, 1915, in White Sulphur Springs, Mont. He married Inez in Polson, Mont.

He worked as a gas and diesel mechanic, body and paint man, machinist and millwright.

Mr. Deming was a member of the Eagles Lodge and Elks Club. He enjoyed gunsmithing, hunting, fishing, camping, muzzle loading events, reading, woodworking and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry of Gresham and Jim of Bend; two daughters, Sharon Fisher of Metaline Falls, Wash., and Inez McKinney of Burns; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Roy Joseph Forman

Jan. 2, 1916 Nov. 3, 2001

Roy Joseph Forman of The Dalles died Saturday at his home. He was 85.

A viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in The Dalles. A Rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. Todd Unger officiating. A burial will follow the service at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery.

Mr. Forman was born Jan. 2, 1916, in The Dalles to Roy and Mary (Stryder) Forman. He married Phyllis Dickson on Jan. 25, 1938, in The Dalles.

He worked as a cattle and wheat rancher in Antelope. He then took over the family ranch in 1935 after the death of his father.

Mr. Forman was recognized as the 1950 Wasco County Soil Conservation Man of the Year, Oregon State winner in 1951, Wasco County Cattleman of the Year in 1954 and Wasco County Grassman of the Year in 1955. He was the President of the Oregon Wheat League in 1945. He served on local and county school boards and committees and headed the Wasco County Farm Bureau. He served on both the Wasco County and Oregon State SCS committees. He helped organize the Antelope Telephone Cooperative and served on the Wasco County Electric Board of Directors for 35 years.

He was affiliated with St. Peter Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, community service and extensive world travel.

Survivors include his wife of The Dalles; three sons, Roy ”Sonny” of Fort Rock, Richard of Madras and Lowell of Antelope; four daughters, Sharon Bystran of Aptos, Calif., Marilyn Senko of Banks, Gwendolyn Johnston and Carolyn Wood, both of The Dalles; one sister, Anne Campbell of Portland; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Catherine (Yancey) Kollen

Catherine (Yancey) Kollen of Madras died Wednesday of natural causes at her home. She was 76.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Madras.

Mrs. Kollen was born May 28, 1925, to Aubrey and Callie (Davis) Yancey in Coldwater, Miss. She married Henry Kollen on Jan. 21, 1952 at the Baptist Parsonage in Madras.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Kollen enjoyed quilting and sewing.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Bryan of Glide and Christopher of Madras; two daughters, Hal Littlejohn of Metolius and Kathy Morales of Metolius; one sister, Mary Alice Winters of Clarksdale, Miss.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son and a brother.

Pauline Lucille (Smith) Sturdevant

Pauline Lucille (Smith) Sturdevant of Bend died Oct. 26 of natural causes at her home. She was 78.

No service will be held at her request.

Mrs. Sturdevant was born April 27, 1923, in Dallas to J.D. and Pearl Lousie (Jost) Smith. She married Keith Sturdevant on June 14, 1941, in Eugene.

She was a homemaker. She moved to Bend in 1994.

Mrs. Sturdevant was affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a member of Job’s Daughters. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, crafts, stitching, crocheting and quilting.

Survivors include her three sons, Dale of Toledo, James of La Pine and William of Bend; one daughter, Luann Brown of Bend; one sister, Dorothy Hughes of Eugene; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

June Elaine(Peters) Bach

June Elaine (Peters) Bach of Bend died Saturday at Aspen Ridge Care Facility. She was 76.

A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Niswonger, Reynolds and Tabor Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church in Bend.

Ms. Bach was born March 13, 1925, to Hugo and Irene (Kovarik) Peters in Bend. She graduated from Bend High School in 1943.

She graduated from the Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in 1946 and worked at St. Charles Medical Center for more than 30 years before retiring in 1992.

Ms. Bach was a member of the Oregon Nurses Association, Disabled Veterans of America and Pioneer Association.

Survivors include her two sons, Michael of Bend and Christopher of Baker City; one sister, Faye Pengelly of Boise, Idaho; two grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.
