Richard Arthur Hastie

Richard Arthur Hastie of Bend died Sunday at St. Charles Medical Center. He was 57.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Bend with Father William Ellis officiating.

Mr. Hastie was born June 23, 1944, in Ft. Dodge, Iowa to Jerald Hastie and Helen (Florian) Hastie. He graduated from Weslyn University in Lincoln, Neb., with a bachelor’s degree in political science and played football. He married Carol McKethen on July 25, 1971, in Evergreen, Colo.

He and his family moved to Bend in 1986. He worked as an independent salesman for several years.

For the past 6 years, he worked for Lumberman’s Insurance Company in Bend.

Mr. Hastie was a member of the Bend Chamber of Commerce, Theta Chi Fraternity and Young Democrats. He also coached little league, football and basketball. He enjoyed skiing, playing golf, his pets, animals and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of Bend; one son, Matthew of Bend; two daughters, Marisa Hastie-Barsness of Eugene and Meghan of Corvallis; and his mother, Helen Hastie of Bend.

He was preceded in death by his brother.

Ralph Cater

Aug. 10, 1952 Nov. 25, 2001

Ralph Cater of Longview, Texas died Sunday of cancer at his home. He was 49.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Little Flock Baptist Church in Longview, Texas with Rev. Ted White officiating.

Mr. Cater was born Aug. 10, 1952, in Coos Bay to Edwin and Anne Cater. He married Carol.

He served in the Air Force.

Mr. Cater lived in Bend for most of his life. He moved to Longview in 1996. He owned and operated a handyman business, Triple R, and worked with local real estate agents.

He was affiliated with the Little Flock Baptist Church in Longview. He was a member and founder of the Central Oregon Soaring Society. He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes.

Survivors include his wife of Longview; one daughter, Candice Gleason; mother and stepfather, J.W. Duff of Longview; and two brothers, Mike of Rhome, Texas and Jeff of La Pine.

Helen Marie (Wick) Stevens

Helen Marie (Wick) Stevens of Bend died Sunday of natural causes. She was 64.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Redmond with Pastor Dick Metz officiating.

Ms. Stevens was born Jan. 5, 1937. She served in the Peace Corps in the 1950s.

She worked as a nanny for the Erlin Mielke family of Bend for 22 years.

Ms. Stevens was affiliated with the Zion Lutheran Church in Redmond. She enjoyed ceramics, painting figurines, playing board games, flowers, animals and bird watching and watching family members participate in sports.

Survivors include her three brothers, James, Dale and Eugene, all of Abilene, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Arlene (Allan)Satterlee

Arlene (Allan) Satterlee of Bend died Nov. 20 of natural causes. She was 78.

A private service will be held.

Mrs. Satterlee was born July 28, 1923, in Seattle.

She was affiliated with the Christian Scientist Church. She enjoyed going to classical music concerts.

Survivors include her brother, Lloyd Allan of Bothell, Wash.; and one cousin, Sonny Jewett of Yakima, Wash.

Emma (Moore) Donnelly

June 5, 1910 Nov. 24, 2001

Emma (Moore) Donnelly of Elma, Wash., died Saturday of natural causes. She was 91.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 5 at Deschutes Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Donnelly was born June 5, 1910, in Dierks, Ark. She married Ural Donnelly in 1946 in Lewiston, Idaho.

She worked as a housewife. She lived in Bend.

Mrs. Donnelly was affiliated with the Church of Latter-day Saints in Bend.

Survivors include her two sons, Ray Woodard of Elma, Wash., and David of Hoods Port, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a son.

Emma H.(Siemiller) Gordy

April 30, 1919 Nov. 1, 2001

Emma H. (Siemiller) Gordy of Oskaloosa, Iowa died Nov. 1 at her home. She was 82.

A funeral service was held.

Mrs. Gordy was born April 30, 1919, in Franam, Neb., to I.R. and Eva (Earll) Siemiller. She married Charles Gittings on June 29, 1937, in McCook, Neb.

She worked for J.C. Penney in Eureka, Calif.

She moved to Bend in 1956 and with her husband owned and operated a ranch.

Mrs. Gordy married Everett Gordy on May 19, 1991, in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

She was affiliated with the Baptist church and served as a deaconess.

Survivors include her son, Charles Gittings of Huachuca City, Ariz.; two stepsons, Larry of Oskaloosa, Iowa and Ron of Knoxville, Iowa; one stepdaughter, Vicky Sue of New Sharon, Iowa; two brothers, Dean Siemiller of Leadville, Colo., and Kenneth Siemiller of Idaho; one sister, Elsie Siemiller of Chico, Calif.; two grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first and second husband, parents, four brothers and two sisters.
