William Dorsey Maclay

William Dorsey Maclay of Charleston, Mo., died Jan. 10 at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Mo. He was 71.

A service was held.

Mr. Maclay was born July 26, 1930, in Olympia, Wash., to Robert and Mary (Weaver) Maclay. He graduated from Oregon State University. He married Gene on Oct. 26, 1953, in Portland.

He served as a navigator in the Air Force for 20 years. He served in the Vietnam War. He lived in Powell Butte.

Mr. Maclay was affiliated with the Episcopal faith. He was a member of the Hawaiian Mission Children’s Society Mission Houses Museum.

Survivors include his wife of Charleston, Mo.; a daughter, Mary Maclay of Shawnee, Kan.; a brother, Robert Maclay of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Ethelwyn Maclay Kearney of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son.

Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Carter (Fears) Evans

Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Carter (Fears) Evans of Redmond died Thursday of natural causes at St. Charles Medical Center. She was 67.

A private service will be held.

Mrs. Evans was born April 9, 1934, in Charlotte County, Va., to Clifford and Alice Virginia (Tucker) Fears. She married David Evans Jr. on Oct. 22, 1950, in Richmond, Va.

Mrs. Evans moved to Redmond in 1979. She was co-owner of David Evans Plumbing in Redmond.

She enjoyed bowling and participated in Redmond bowling leagues. She also enjoyed dancing, fishing, hunting and collecting antiques.

Mrs. Evans was affiliated with the Manchester Baptist Church in Richmond, Va.

Survivors include her husband of Redmond; a son, David of Priest Lake, Idaho; two daughters, Cynthia Beech of Spokane, Wash., and JoAnne Sophy of Redmond; one brother, Charles Fears of Soluda, N.C.; a sister, Nancy Sands of Drakes Branch, Va.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son.

Thomas Wilson Combs

Thomas Wilson Combs of Prineville died Sunday of natural causes. He was 92.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Prineville Funeral Home.

Mr. Combs was born Oct. 29, 1909, in Kansas City, Kan. He married Ellinor Meyret on June 26, 1958, in Inglewood, Calif.

He enjoyed working with wood.

Survivors include his wife of Prineville; two sons, Don of Springfield and Merle of Ontario, Calif.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

Allen Landers

Allen Landers of Prineville died Saturday of natural causes. He was 78.

A viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Prineville Funeral Home. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Prineville Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Juniper Haven Cemetery.

Mr. Landers was born Oct. 2, 1923, in Alleene, Ark., to Edgar and Carmen (Bird) Landers. He married Fay Demaris on Oct. 9, 1944, in Fort Townson, Okla.

He served in the Army.

Mr. Landers worked as a truck driver for Redmond Airbase. He also worked as a mechanic. He then worked as a truck driver and retired in 1987.

He was affiliated with the Prineville First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Oregon Log Truck Association and Central Oregon Timber Carnival. He enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, traveling and rock hounding.

Survivors include his wife of Prineville; four daughters, Sharon Struck of Terrebonne, Lila Gerke of Redmond, Wanda Schnabele of Izee and Nola Perry of Prineville; three brothers, Carl and Truman, both of Prineville and Conley ”Lee” of Bend; a sister, Muriel Thomas of Prineville; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and granddaughter.

Veta May (Miller) Crafton

Veta May (Miller) Crafton of Prineville died Wednesday of natural causes. She was 98.

A viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Prineville Funeral Home. A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the McMinnville Nazarene Church. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Memorial Park in McMinnville.

Mrs. Crafton was born July 30, 1903, in Walla Walla, Wash., to William and Virginia (May) Miller. She married Thomas ”Dale” Crafton on July 3, 1922, in Oregon City.

She and her husband moved to Fossil in 1948 and became cattle ranchers. They retired and moved to Prineville in 1957.

Mrs. Crafton was affiliated with the McMinnville Nazarene Church. She enjoyed camping, fishing, sewing and traveling.

Survivors include her five sons, Jerry of Prineville, Kalvin of Vancouver, Wash., Wallace of Stanfield and Clay and Clint, both of McMinnville; a daughter, Virginia Stevens of Dayton; 25 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, parents and two sisters.

Lura Josephine (Ells) Bradford

Lura Josephine (Ells) Bradford of Portland died Wednesday of natural causes. She was 98.

A service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Bradford was born July 2, 1903 in Iroquoise, S.D. She married Floyd Utley on Sept. 5, 1927.

She worked with her husband, an optometrist, from 1937 to 1955. She then worked as a bookkeeper for Chase Gardens Wholesale Florists before retiring in 1966.

She married Paul W. Bradford on Sept. 15, 1973. Mrs. Bradford was affiliated with the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Portland.

Survivors include her daughter, Evelyn Haertel of Bend; a stepdaughter, Loretta Taylor of Portland; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands and a son.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Holladay Park Plaza endowment fund or Westminster Presbyterian Church.

William ‘Bill’ H. Clark

July 6, 1948 Jan. 19, 2002

William ”Bill” H. Clark of Bend died Saturday of natural causes. He was 53.

A viewing will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Nazarene. A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Nazarene.

Mr. Clark was born July 6, 1948, in Pikeville, Ky., to William and Elmo Clark.

He served in the Army as a captain.

Mr. Clark worked as a senior inspector for the Oregon Liquor Control Commission. He moved to Bend in 1978. He retired in 1998.

He was affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge and Ducks Unlimited. He was Chief Patriarch of Jefferson encampment No.103, current District Deputy Grand Master of Deschutes District and past Captain of Canton Deschutes No.19, all of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gambling and traveling.

Survivors include his father of The Dalles; and a brother, Don Clark of Salem.

He was preceded in death by his mother.
