Sherman Rhodes Eycleshimer

Sherman Rhodes Eycleshimer of Bend died Sunday. He was 91.

A private service will be held.

Mr. Eycleshimer was born July 29, 1910, in Seattle. He married Carolyn (Cubbison) Rabideau on Aug. 1, 1992, in Reno, Nev.

He served as a merchant marine in the Navy.

Mr. Eycleshimer was a chef and owned and operated a restaurant. He retired in 1973.

He was a musician. He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife of Bend; a daughter, Shawna of Bend; and two stepdaughters, Tammy Geddis of Bend and Connie Thompson of Maine.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Deschutes Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Vera Marie (Watson) Yauney

March 12, 1912 Jan. 24, 2002

Vera Marie (Watson) Yauney of Bend died Thursday of natural causes. She was 89.

A private service will be held.

Mrs. Yauney was born March 12, 1912, in Clatskanie. She married Earl Yauney on Oct. 29, 1954, in Portland.

She worked for U.S. Bank for many years. She moved to Bend in 1979.

Mrs. Yauney was a member of a painting club.

Survivors include her husband of Bend; a stepson, Jerry of Portland; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her two sons and parents.

David Walter Kirbs

David Walter Kirbs of Bend died Sunday. He was 50.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Rimrock Riders, 63303 O.B. Riley Road in Bend.

Mr. Kirbs was a native of Bend.

Survivors include many family members and friends.

Elmer Edward Stone

May 11, 1897 Jan. 24, 2002

Elmer Edward Stone of Canyonville died Jan. 24 in Roseburg of natural causes. He was 104.

A graveside service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Stone was born May 11, 1897, in Blossom, Texas.

He served in the Navy during World War I.

Mr. Stone worked for Singer Sewing Machine Co. in Wyoming, raised produce and hogs in Colorado and operated a grocery store/motel/gas station in Utah before retiring to Bend in 1968. He moved to Canyonville in 1986.

Mr. Stone enjoyed raising chickens, fishing and panning for gold.

Survivors include his two sons, Hollis of Denver. and Harold of Reno, Nev.; three daughters, Dorothy Berg of Sterling, Colo., Helen Anderson of San Raphael, Calif., and Darleen Peters of Bend; two sisters, Beatrice Jackson of Corpus Cristi, Texas, and Ruby McDaniel of Lubbock, Texas; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Ruth Margaret (Vandevert) Lane

Ruth Margaret (Vandevert) Lane of Prineville died Sunday of natural causes. She was 102.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Prineville. A burial will follow at Juniper Haven Cemetery.

Mrs. Lane was born Oct. 19, 1899, in Cottage Grove to Charles and Margaret (Whipple) Vandevert. She graduated from Bend Senior High School in 1917 and Pomona College in 1921. She married T.M. Lane on Sept. 2, 1923, in Bakersfield, Calif.

She moved to Prineville on June 1, 1969.

Mrs. Lane was a past member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Quilted Circle at the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting.

Survivors include her daughter, Margaret Price of Arroyo Grande, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a sister.

Prineville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Christian Russell Shumway

January 28, 2002

Christian Russell Shumway of Prineville died Monday at St. Charles Medical Center.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Bible Way Community Church in Prineville with Pastor Kelly Haskins officiating. Burial will follow at Juniper Haven Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 28, 2002 in Bend to Rebekah Barbis and Justin Shumway.

Survivors include his parents of Prineville; a brother, Beau William; two grandfathers, William Barbis of Bend and Vern Shumway of Prineville; two grandmothers, Sandra Barbis of Bend and Charlotte Allison of Madras; and two great-grandmothers, Maxine Barbis of Portland and Margret Allison of Prineville.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
