Madras star shares top player honor
MADRAS Jacoby Ellsbury of Madras has been named 2001-02 co-player of the year for boys basketball in the Tri-Valley League.

Ellsbury, a senior who is averaging nearly 21 points per game, shared the award with Valley Catholic senior Joe VanDomelen.
Rounding out the all-league first-team were Brian Gram of Valley Catholic, David Miller of Wilsonville and Dallan Labrum of The Dalles.
Also named to the Tri-Valley League all-conference team from Madras was sophomore Dominique Easterling (second team) and senior Jeff Barnes (honorable mention).
White Buffs named to all-league team
MADRAS Four members of the Madras White Buffaloes girls basketball team have been selected to the Tri-Valley League’s 2001-02 all-star squad.
Junior guard Tosha Wilson, who is averaging nearly 10 points per game this season, was named to the all-league first-team. Senior guard Nicole Main, who leads Madras in scoring at better than 11 points per game, was named to the all-league second-team. Earning honorable-mention recognition from the White Buffaloes were senior Natalie Miller and sophomore Elise Hawes.

For the third consecutive year, Jill Noe of Wilsonville was named player of the year.
Ernst tabbed boys MVP in the SCL
GILCHRIST Gilchrist senior Adam Ernst, who led all Central Oregon athletes in scoring this winter, has been named the most valuable player in Southern Cascade League boys basketball for the 2001-02 season.
Ernst, a 6-foot-2-inch guard/forward, averaged 24.5 points per game this season. He scored 30 or more points seven times for the Class 2A Grizzlies.
Joining Ernst on the SCL all-league team was junior teammate Britt Pinaire, a 5-11 forward. Pinaire was named to the all-league third team.
Grizzlies place two on all-league team
GILCHRIST Two juniors from Gilchrist High School have been selected to the 2001-02 Southern Cascade League all-conference girls basketball team.
Jessica Knotts, a 5-foot-9-inch guard, was named to the all-league first-team. She averaged 7.1 points per game this season for the Grizzlies. Teammate Megan Stevens, a 5-11 post, was named to the all-league second-team. She averaged 11.3 points per game this year.
Whitney Brookins of league-champion Cascade Christian was named most valuable player.
Three Bulldogs earn postseason honors
CULVER Sophomore Nate Lewis, who led Culver in scoring, was one of three Bulldogs who have been selected to the 2001-02 Columbia Basin Conference all-league boys basketball team.
Lewis, who earned second-team recognition, was joined on the all-league team by senior teammates Brennan Whitaker and Jeff Cloud. Whitaker and Cloud were named to the honorable-mention team.
The CBC all-conference first-team consisted of Stefan Matheny of Heppner, Michael McCabe of Heppner, Tony Villanueva Jr. of Umatilla, Zach Johnson of Weston-McEwen, and David Norton of Heppner.
Culver duo named to CBC girls team
CULVER Two members of the 2001-02 Culver girls basketball team have been selected to the Columbia Basin Conference all-league squad.
Junior Amanda Allen and senior Tara Stirewalt each was selected to the honorable-mention team.
Allen led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring this season with a 10.8 points per game average. Stirewalt averaged 7.9 points per game this season.
The CBC all-conference first-team consisted of Amanda Doherty of Pilot Rock, Michelle Strong of Umatilla, Lacey Matteson of Heppner, Amica Vogler of Pilot Rock, and Jodie Cleaver of Umatilla.
