Ronald ‘Tony’ Garcia

Ronald ”Tony” Garcia of Bend died Saturday in a motor vehicle accident near Sisters. He was 32.

A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Niswonger, Reynolds and Tabor Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Hendrix officiating.

Mr. Garcia was born March 8, 1970, in Nampa, Idaho, to Cristobal and Sebulah (Houchens) Garcia. His family moved to Bend his sophomore year of high school.

He attended Central Oregon Community College. He planned to become a goldsmith. He moved to Hawaii and worked for Pizza Hut and Hooters. He then returned to Bend and worked as a sous chef.

Mr. Garcia enjoyed art, jewelry, stones, the Portland Trail Blazers, tattoos, cooking and spending time with his mother.

Survivors include his father of Caldwell, Idaho; and a brother, Cristobal II of Bend.

Sebulah ‘Sue’ Ariminita Houchens

Sebulah ”Sue” Ariminita Houchens of Bend died Saturday in a motor vehicle accident near Sisters. She was 49.

A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Niswonger, Reynolds and Tabor Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Hendrix officiating.

Ms. Houchens was born Oct. 28, 1952, in Louisville, Ky., to William and Mildred (Yochum) Houchens.

She worked at various jobs including driving a combine in the fields in Idaho, working at Carnation and Fox Hall and co-owning Port-O-Hope Drug Store in Caldwell, Idaho. She also worked for the Health and Welfare Office and as a waitress in Nampa, Idaho.

Ms. Houchens enjoyed traveling, especially to Winchester Bay where she would ride the sand dunes on her 4-wheeler. She also enjoyed fishing, camping, deep-sea fishing, crabbing, the Portland Trail Blazers and playing Indian Bingo.

Survivors include her two sons, Cristobal Garcia II of Bend and Vern McDonald of Nampa, Idaho; a brother, Ronald of Bend; two sisters, Brenda Carney and Patricia Greenwell, both of Louisville, Ky.; and three grandchildren.

Irwin C. Taylor

Irwin C. Taylor of Redmond died Monday in Prineville. He was 78.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Deschutes Memorial Funeral Chapel. Entombment will follow at Deschutes Memorial Mausoleum.

Mr. Taylor was born April 11, 1923, in Redmond. He married Lola Gaston on July 25, 1944.

He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a B-17 tail gunner during World War II. He earned the rank of E-8 Senior Master Sergeant. He retired in 1976.

Mr. Taylor returned to Redmond in 1977. He owned and operated Taylor’s Upholstery. He retired in 1988.

He was a member of the Redmond American Legion and Disabled Veterans Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling and playing the slot machines.

Survivors include his son, Jim of Yakima, Wash.; a daughter, Linda Estes of Spokane, Wash.; a brother, Sidney of Bend; a sister, Faye Murphy of Portland; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Crook County Search and Rescue.

Robert Wayne Faddis

Aug. 21, 1915 March 19, 2002

Robert Wayne Faddis of Bend died Tuesday of natural causes at his home. He was 86.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Deschutes Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Faddis was born Aug. 21, 1915, in Woods Cross, Utah. He married Helen Wetle on July 21, 1944, in Bend.

He served in the U.S. Navy on the aircraft carrier Ranger during World War II.

Mr. Faddis moved to Bend in 1937. He worked as a field engineer for Pacific Power and Light. He also raised and trained Labrador Retrievers for many years. He retired in 1980.

He was a member of the Bend Elks, Bend Rotary and Bend Golf and Country Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of Bend; two sons, Steven of Elko, Nev., and Robert of Bend; a daughter, Carol O’Shea of Bend; a sister, Elizabeth Ballard of Florence; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son and a sister.

Dean Arthur Davis

Nov. 4, 1916 March 19, 2002

Dean Arthur Davis of Madras died Tuesday of natural causes at his home. He was 85.

A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Bel-Air Colonial Funeral Home. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bel-Air Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Davis was born Nov. 4, 1916, in Held to Delmar and Blanche (Larkin) Davis. He married Leta Smith on Nov. 4, 1937, in Bend.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Davis worked as a potato buyer for the Jefferson County Potato Company. He served on the Oregon State Potato Commission for several years. He retired in November 1981.

He was a member of the Madras Elks Lodge. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, driving in the backcountry, the Portland Trail blazers and Gonzaga University Bulldogs. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of Madras; a son, William of Spokane, Wash.; a daughter, Donna Corwin of Eagle Point; a brother, Neil of Bend; a sister, Ruth Beesley; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

James Charles Nichols

James Charles Nichols of La Pine died Monday of natural causes. He was 72.

No service will be held.

Mr. Nichols was born July 4, 1929, in Frederick, Colo. He married Sandra on Jan. 1, 1993, in Las Vegas.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Nichols moved to Alaska in 1946. He worked as a conductor on the Alaska Railroad for 30 years. He retired and moved to La Pine in 1977.

He enjoyed traveling, Louis L’Amour books, John Wayne movies, spending time with his family and friends, the High Desert, telling stories of Alaska and flying remote-controlled airplanes near Sisters.

Survivors include his wife of La Pine; a daughter, Sandy of Anchorage, Alaska; a brother, Keith of Soldotina, Alaska; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Charles Home Health or Hospice of Bend-La Pine.

Marvin ‘Marv’ D. Davis

Marvin ”Marv” D. Davis of Bend died Saturday. He was 83.

A viewing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Niswonger, Reynolds and Tabor Funeral Home. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Niswonger, Reynolds and Tabor Funeral Home.

Mr. Davis was born March 22, 1918, in Vernal, Utah. He married Myra Greenhow on Aug. 25, 1937, in Vernal, Utah.

He moved to Bend in 1940. He worked as a powerhouse operator at Shevlin-Hixon for more than 35 years.

Mr. Davis was affiliated with the Christian Life Center Senior Group. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding horses, fixing things and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of Bend; two sons, Grant of Bend and Del of Keizer; a brother, Theron; three sisters, Aloha Vietti and Eva Allen, both of Salt Lake City, and Beulah Hatch of Vernal, Utah; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
