Lower Columbia Community College of Longview, Wash., is in the driver’s seat of the eight-team Central Oregon Spring Break Baseball Tournament after Sunday’s action at Genna Stadium in Bend.
Lower Columbia (3-0) will play in the 5 p.m. championship game, after three other teams still alive in the tournament battle to determine the opponent.
On Sunday, Columbia Basin defeated Tacoma, 3-2, in the completion of a game halted by rain Saturday. Linn-Benton eliminated Lane, 4-3, with former Bend High player Mike Wagner’s two-run homer the decisive blow.
Columbia Basin then blanked Chemeketa, 4-0, as Lance Johnson pitched a five-hit shutout. The day’s play ended with Lower Columbia beating Mount Hood, 6-3, on Tucker Brock’s three-run homer in the 10th inning.
Today, Linn-Benton and Columbia Basin were to meet at 11 a.m., with the winner facing Mount Hood at 2 p.m. The winner of that game will play Lower Columbia at 5 p.m.
