Agnes Margaret (Soderstrom) Frey

July 31, 1913 March 24, 2002

Agnes Margaret (Soderstrom) Frey of Bend died Sunday. She was 88.

Survivors include her son, Paul Watts of Clovis, Calif.; two daughters, Nancy Unger of Bend and Kathleen Sherman of Portland; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

R.T. Thomas

Jan. 24, 1919 March 28, 2002

R.T. Thomas of Prineville died Thursday. He was 83.

A funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. today at Whispering Pines Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Thomas was born Jan. 24, 1919, in Bienville Parrish, La., to William and Verbie (Wheeler) Thomas. He married Muriel on Sept. 2, 1939, in Port Towson, Okla.

He farmed cotton in Texas. He moved to Oregon in 1955 and worked as a log truck driver for Hudspeth Pine. He then owned and operated a service station in Redmond.

Mr. Thomas was a member of the Elks. He enjoyed working, gardening, his yard, remodeling his home and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of Prineville; a son, Donald of Goldendale, Wash.; five daughters, Frances Ashley and Brenda, both of Beaverton, Patricia Tisdale of Vancouver, Wash., Alicia of Aloha and Rita Towle of Springfield; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.

Eleazer ‘Shorty’ Claudio DuPont

Eleazer ”Shorty” Claudio DuPont of Metolius died Wednesday of natural causes at his home. He was 87.

A viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Bel-Air Colonial Funeral Home. A recitation of the rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Madras. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Mr. DuPont was born Jan. 15, 1915, in Los Pinos, N.M., to Eduardo and Veronice DuPont. He married Ana de Jesus on May 28, 1928, in Del Norte, Colo.

He moved to Metolius in 1955. He worked as a plant manager for Gourmet Foods. He retired in 1980.

Mr. DuPont was affiliated with St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed working in his yard, fishing, going to the Jefferson County Senior Center and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his three sons, Leroy of Vancouver, Wash., Alonzo of Madras and Patrick of Metolius; four daughters, Frances Retherford, Hilda Stephens and Donna Boatman, all three of Metolius, and Mary Shull of Bend; two sisters, Josie Martinez and Rosie Lucero, both of Colorado; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers, two sisters, a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.

Rosemary I.

(Lyons) Sheehan

Sept. 22, 1921 March 27, 2002

Rosemary I. (Lyons) Sheehan of Bend died Wednesday of natural causes. She was 80.

A celebration of life will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 14 at Aspen Hall in Shevlin Park.

Mrs. Sheehan was born Sept. 22, 1921, in San Diego. She graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara. She married Vince Sheehan in 1947 in Santa Barbara, Calif.

She served in the U.S. Navy Waves.

Mrs. Sheehan lived in Bend for 17 years.

She was a member of the Athletic Club of Bend and volunteered with various community organizations. She enjoyed reading and the outdoors.

Survivors include her husband of Bend; a son, Paul of Orinda, Calif.; four daughters, Peggy Dow of Seattle, Katie Worcester of Willits, Calif., Mary Lou of Cannon Beach, Calif., and Anne Marie Morgante of Alamo, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Oregon.

John Neilson

Sept. 22, 1947 March 19, 2002

John Neilson of Bend died March 19 of liver failure at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. He was 54.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. April 7 at Aspen Hall in Shevlin Park.

Mr. Neilson was born Sept. 22, 1947, in Burbank, Calif., to Dr. Robert and Shirle Neilson. He married Kathi Holznagel on July 10, 1983.

He owned and operated a home remodeling business. He was involved with the Bend Urban Land Survey. He was a member of the Open Space Committee of the Friends of Bend. He helped pass the Upland ASI ordinance and a Waterway Overlay Zone.

Mr. Neilson enjoyed living in Bend, fly fishing, bicycling, the environment, hiking, spending time with his family and friends, animals and bird watching.

Survivors include his wife of Bend; and two sisters, Mary Wood of Wilsonville and Barbi Hartvickson of Portland.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
