William Wild Bill’ Aaron McKelvy
May 8, 1931 – May 30, 2002
William ”Wild Bill” Aaron McKelvy of Madras died Thursday of natural causes at Mt. View Hospital. He was 71.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Madras.
Mr. McKelvy was born May 8, 1931, in Emmett, Idaho, to Americus and Thelma (Scott) McKelvy. He married Charlene (Harris) McKelvy on Nov. 3, 1945, in Reno, Nev. He moved to Madras in 1949.
He served in the Army from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean War.
After returning to Madras, Mr. McKelvy owned and operated McKelvy Farms for many years.
He was a member of the Jefferson County Rod and Gun Club and Madras Elks Lodge, where he served as a trustee and Exalted Ruler from 1986-87.
Mr. McKelvy enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and his dogs. He also enjoyed spending time visiting with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of Madras; four daughters, Cindy Dubisar of Madras, Debbie Jorgensen of Baker City, Vicki of Madras and Erin Green of Golden, Colo.; his mother of Madras; a brother, Richard of Madras; two sisters, Wilma Mullins of Glen Allen, Miss., and Shirley Marihugh of Arlington, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Elk’s National Foundation or Elk’s Scholarship Fund.

Louis F. Rufener
Sept. 24, 1914 – May 30, 2002
Louis F. Rufener of Madras died Thursday of cancer. He was 87.
A viewing will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at Bel-Air Funeral Home. A recitation of the rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Madras. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Mr. Rufener was born Sept. 24, 1914, in Grizzly to Fred and Katie Rufener. He married Ruth (Brown) Rufener on Sept. 9, 1942, in Dothan, Ala.
He served in World War II.
Mr. Rufener farmed on the Agency Plains from 1946 to 1976, when he retired.
He was honored as Jefferson County Pioneer King in 1996 and he and his wife were named Jefferson County Tree Farmers of the Year in 2000.
Mr. Rufener enjoyed the Grizzly timberlands, sawmilling, fishing, hunting, camping with his family and playing bridge with his friends.
Survivors include his wife of Madras; three sons, Robert of Madras, Raymond of La Grande and Ronald of Keizer; five daughters, Frances Maddox of Portland, Mary Ann Steele of Redmond, Kathleen Marston of Madras, Virginia McHugh of Missoula, Mont., and Annette Vardanega of Terrebonne; a sister, Nellie Evick of Madras; 31 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. View Hospice or Jefferson County Meals-on-Wheels.

Laura Martha (Boggs) Libby
Nov. 1, 1953 – May 30, 2002
Laura Martha (Boggs) Libby of Bend died Thursday. She was 48.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Libby was born Nov. 1, 1953, in Placerville, Calif. She married Larry Libby on Nov. 12, 1977, in Yreka, Calif.
She was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed teaching, spending time with her family, hiking and camping. She graduated from Multnomah School of the Bible and homeschooled her children from kindergarten through middle school.
Mrs. Libby was affiliated with the First Baptist Church and worked with ”Moms In Touch,” praying for public school teachers. She also volunteered at Bend High School.
In 1992 she moved to Bend from Gresham.
She is survived by her husband; her parents, Robert and Patricia Boggs of Yreka, Calif.; her brother, Ben Boggs of Sacramento, Calif.; her son, Matthew, and her daughter, Melissa, both of Bend.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Samaritan’s Purse, a Franklin Graham ministry, at P.O. Box 3000, Boone, N.C. 28607.

Vera Belle (Hoskinson) Schnoor
Oct. 8, 1922 – May 30, 2002
Vera Belle (Hoskinson) Schnoor of Prineville died Thursday. She was 79.
A visitation will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Monday and a funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Whispering Pines Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow the funeral and will be held in Juniper Haven Cemetery.
Mrs. Schnoor was born Oct 8, 1922, in Clearwater, Neb., to Wilbert and Mildred Hoskinson. She married Robert L. Schnoor in Clearwater.
She worked for many years at JC Penny’s in Prineville and later worked in the ”mom and pop” grocery store she and her husband ran.
She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Schnoor is survived by her husband; her daughters, Mickie Hoskins of Klamath Falls, Linda Kirschner of Portland and Kathryn Burke of Portland; her son, Robert of Prineville; her brothers, Boyd and Billie Hoskinson of Prineville and Molalla; her sisters, Shirley Searcy of Prineville, Millie Moeller of Albany and Jeaneane Wachs of Seattle and Jerry Bateman of Madras; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pioneer Memorial Hospital.
