Joyce L. Reed

March 25, 1924 – May 19, 2002

Joyce L. Reed of Bend died May 19. She was 78.

A private memorial service was held.

Mrs. Reed was born March 25, 1924, in Aberdeen, S.D. She moved to Portland in 1941 and to Bend in 1984.

She enjoyed nature, the desert, the ocean and the mountains.

Survivors include her husband, Carl of Bend; two sons, Bob of Canyon City and Craig Sampson of Bothell, Wash.; two daughters, Jane Sampson of Bend and Sharon Tabler of Aloha; a brother, Les Webb of Lynnwood, Wash.; a sister, Gladys Autry of Boise, Idaho; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Donald William DeVine

March 29, 1930 – June 8, 2002

Donald William DeVine of Bend died Saturday of cancer. He was 72.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at High Lakes Christian Church in La Pine.

Mr. DeVine was born March 29, 1930, in Jersey Shore, Pa. He married M. Beverly Chambers on June 11, 1949, in Winchester, Va.

He served in the Army during World War II.

Mr. DeVine was the owner of a Polaris Engineering firm in Fairbanks, Alaska, from 1955 to 1963. He was a Civil Engineer with the U.S. Forest Service for 20 years. He retired in October 1985.

He was affiliated with High Lakes Christian Church. He was an officer on the sanitary sewer board at Oregon Water Wonderland in Bend.

Survivors include his wife of Bend; a son, Jeffrey of Portland; a daughter, Sheri of San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, Kenneth of Jersey Shore, Pa., and Doug of Boerne, Texas; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Mary Margaret (Hopkins) Orr

May 11, 1909 – June 7, 2002

Mary Margaret (Hopkins) Orr of Prineville died Friday of natural causes. She was 93.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Juniper Haven Cemetery.

Mrs. Orr was born May 11, 1909, in Howard, Colo., to Harold and Ethel (McNett) Hopkins. She moved to Oregon in 1912. She married William Orr on Aug. 27, 1927, and moved to Prineville in 1938.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Orr was affiliated with the First Baptist Church.

She enjoyed cooking, knitting, crocheting and playing pinochle.

Survivors include her two sons, Gordon of Prairie City and Forrest of Redding, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
