Frances Jean
(Cook) Fuqua
Jan. 9, 1926 – June 17, 2002
Frances Jean (Cook) Fuqua of Bend died Monday of natural causes. She was 76.
A private service will be held.
Mrs. Fuqua was born Jan. 9, 1926, in Flagstaff, Ariz., to Thomas and Blanche (McDowell) Cook. Mrs. Fuqua was raised and attended school in Bend, after her family moved here in 1928.
She worked for the Bend Troy Laundry for 31 years and for Mission Linen for eight years. She then moved to Portland and worked for the Portland Hospital Service for 11 years. She retired in 1991 and returned to Bend.
Mrs. Fuqua enjoyed garage sales, playing Bingo and spending time with her family. Survivors include her son, John of Bend; two daughters, Karol Gribskov of Bend and Mary Gauthier of Yakima, Wash.; two brothers, John Cook of San Juan Island, Wash., and Thomas Cook of Bend; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, parents, a brother and two sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made to Central Oregon Hospice.

Ryan L. Sweet
Sept. 24, 1973 – June 17, 2002
Ryan L. Sweet of North Bend died Monday. He was 28.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Cape Arago State Park in Coos Bay.
Mr. Sweet was born Sept. 24, 1973, in North Bend. He attended schools in Bend, Coos Bay and North Bend. He married Kari Hansen on June 20, 1998, in North Bend.
He was a semitrailor driver.
Mr. Sweet was affiliated with the Thursday Night Thunder dune riders group.
He enjoyed his family, the outdoors, fishing, golf and snow sports.
Survivors include his wife of North Bend; a daughter, Samantha of North Bend; mother, Sharon Jensen of Bend; father, Bill Sweet of North Bend; stepfather, Kirk Jensen of Bend; stepmother, Kim Sweet of North Bend; five brothers, Billy of Langlois, Joel, Sean and Jordan, all of North Bend, and Adrian Jensen of Bend; and a sister, Kaley Sweet of North Bend.
Memorial contributions may be made in to the Humane Society of Central Oregon, 61170 SE 27th Street, Bend 97702.
North Bend Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Kalaya Rae Rico
June 4, 2002 – June 18, 2002
Kalaya Rae Rico of Madras died Tuesday. She was 2 weeks old.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today at St. Charles Medical Center Chapel.
Kalaya was born June 4, 2002, in Redmond to Della and Jerold Rico.
Survivors include her parents of Madras; three grandfathers, Ernie Rico of Metolius and Mike Throop and Ron Simmelink, both of Madras; and two grandmothers, Judy Throop of Madras and Penny Simmelink of Madras.
