Terry Bonynge
Feb. 9, 1952 – July 6, 2002
Terry Bonynge of Bend died Saturday. She was 50.
A celebration of life service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sunrise Village Lodge.
Ms. Bonynge was born Feb. 9, 1952, in Indianapolis, Ind. She married David Smullin on Aug. 4, 1977, in Cape Cod, Mass.
She was a teacher and developed an interdisciplinary education program. She earned her bachelor’s at Evergreen State College and her master’s at Bank Street College of Education in New York City. She taught at Sunriver Preparatory School from 1992 to 1994 and at Bear Creek School from 1994 to 2002.
Ms. Bonynge was affiliated with the International Dinner Club of Oregon, Tumalo Langlauf, Friends of Bend, Habitat for Humanity and the Environmental Center.
Survivors include her husband of Bend; a son, Josh Smullin of Bend; a daughter, Emily Smullin of Bend; her mother, Jeanne Bonynge of Bend; and a brother, Jeff Bonynge of Grand Rapids, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association of Central Oregon.

Hazel L.(Clark) Hellestoe
April 23, 1910 – July 5, 2002
Hazel L. (Clark) Hellestoe of Bend died Friday of natural causes. She was 92.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Hellestoe was born April 23, 1910, to James and Emily (Fox) in Hollywood, Calif. She married John Hellestoe on May 16, 1930.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Hellestoe was affiliated with the Red Cross and was awarded for her contributions by astronaut Buzz Aldron.
She enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include her husband of Bend; a son, John of Van Nuys, Calif.; a daughter, Carol Leach of Bend; a brother, James Clark of Long Beach, Calif.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bend – La Pine Hospice.

Keith Alexander Ferguson
Jan. 29, 1923 – July 5, 2002
Keith Alexander Ferguson of Terrebonne died Friday of natural causes. He was 79.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today at Community Presbyterian Church in Redmond.
Mr. Ferguson was born Jan. 29, 1923, in Wetonka, S.D. He graduated from Redmond High School in 1940 and married Aileen Greg on May 21, 1941, in Payette, Idaho.
He served in the Navy.
Mr. Ferguson was an irrigator.
He was affiliated with the VFW and the Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife of Terrebonne; a daughter, Kathleen Buxton of Edmonds, Wash.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.
Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Cancer Fund.

Genevieve A.(Carr) Hayward
March 23, 1915 – July 6, 2002
Genevieve A. (Carr) Hayward of Bend died Saturday. She was 87.
A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to noon today at Deschutes Memorial Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m.
Mrs. Hayward was born March 23, 1915, in Lucan, Minn.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Hayward was affiliated with Tumalo Baptist Church.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing, baking, needlework and painting.
Survivors include her three sons, Leslie of Las Vegas, Dannie of Bend, and Leland of La Pine; a daughter, Carol Roshone of Sweet Home; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter and her parents.

Tami St. Clair Meola
Nov. 1, 1957 – July 6, 2002
Tami St. Clair Meola of Sisters died Saturday of lymphoma. She was 44.
A private service will be held.
Ms. St. Clair Meola was born Nov. 1, 1957, in Salem to Wilton and Cecelia (Lamb) St. Clair. She grew up in Salem and spent summers in Camp Sherman at her parents summer home. She attended Scripps Medical School in San Diego.
She was a phlebotomist. She worked at St. Charles Hospital in 1984. She then returned to Salem and recently moved back to Bend.
Ms. St. Clair Meola enjoyed horses and her family, especially her granddaughter.
Survivors include her son, Brandon Meola of Beaverton; a daughter, Charity Robinson of Portland; a sister, Cindy Richartz of Sisters; and one grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

Alan Wesley Petit
May 24, 1920 – July 7, 2002
Alan Wesley Petit of Bend died Sunday. He was 82.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at Trinity Episcopal Church in Bend.
Dr. Petit was born May 24, 1920, in Oxnard, Calif. He graduated from Harvard University Medical School.
He served in the Navy.
Dr. Petit was a general surgeon and had a private practice. He retired to Bend in 1990.
He was affiliated with Trinity Episcopal Church, the U.S. Chess Federation and the Oregon Chess Federation as a competitive chess player.
Dr. Petit enjoyed skiing, traveling, sailing, animals, chess and bridge.
Survivors include his son, Richard of Palo Alto, Calif.; a daughter, Kathryn Gilles of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; two brothers, Donald of La Canada, Calif., and Frank of Palo Alto, Calif.; a sister, Janice Willis of Ventura, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Central Oregon and the American Cancer Society.
