Jerold Jerry’ J. Christenson

Nov. 13, 1938 – Aug. 1, 2002

Jerold ”Jerry” J. Christenson of Crooked River Ranch died Thursday of natural causes. He was 63.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Estacada.

Mr. Christenson was born Nov. 13, 1938, in Walla Walla, Wash., to Harold and Ruth (Fox) Christenson. The family moved to Estacada when he was 4 years old. He married Patti Kobs in 1959.

He served in the National Guard.

Mr. Christenson worked for Timberlake Job Corp and for the forest service in Estacada and Gresham. He retired from the forest service supervisor’s office in Gresham in 1994.

He married Nancy Aberle on June 11, 1976. He moved to Crooked River Ranch in 1997.

Mr. Christenson was affiliated with the First Baptist Church and Highland Baptist Church. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Boring Fire District and a Scout Master for Boy Scouts of America.

He enjoyed fishing, camping, painting, hunting and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife of Crooked River Ranch; two sons, Randy of Portland and Ric of Eagle Creek; one brother, Robert of Tigard; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Beth Avis Everest

May 25, 1912 – Aug. 1, 2002

Beth Avis (Taylor) Everest of Bend died in Redmond on Thursday. She was 90.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Niswonger, Reynolds and Tabor Funeral Home chapel.

The burial will occur immediately after the funeral at Pilot Butte Cemetery.

Mrs. Everest was born May 25, 1912, in Sacramento, Calif.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her son, Fred Everest Jr. of Sitka, Alaska; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, and her daughter.

Niswonger, Reynolds and Tabor Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Gary Lee Vaughn

Oct. 22, 1933 – Aug. 1, 2002

Gary Lee Vaughn of Redmond died Thursday of natural causes. He was 68.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Aug. 10 at the family residence in Redmond.

Mr. Vaughn was born Oct. 22, 1933, in Elgin, Okla. He married Nancy Britton on March 13, 1951, in Wichita Falls, Texas.

He served in the Army for 21 years as Sergeant 1st Class. He was awarded Outstanding Soldier Commendation. He retired in 1973. He moved to Redmond in 1978 where he worked for KPRB radio station for six years.

Mr. Vaughn was affiliated with the Masonic Lodge.

He enjoyed his home, family, crossword puzzles and the History Channel.

Survivors include his wife of Redmond; three sons, Phillip of Bloomsburg, Pa., Perry of Peoria, Ariz., and Stephen of Kennewick, Wash.; four daughters, Paula Nolte of College Place, Wash., Pam Wright of Newport, Susan of Crooked River Ranch and Shelley Marks of Redmond; one sister, Georganne Fahey of Yermo, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, his parents and a brother.

Olga (Mitchell) Wright

Sept. 24, 1913 – Aug. 1, 2002

Olga (Mitchell) Wright of Redmond died Thursday of natural causes. She was 88.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Heights Nursing Home.

Mrs. Wright was born Sept. 24, 1913, in Cline Falls. She married Wilbur Wright on April 4, 1968, in Prineville.

She was a homemaker. She also owned and operated several restaurants in Madras and Prineville. She was a lifelong resident of Redmond.

Mrs. Wright was a member of the Rebekahs, Order of the Eastern Star, Redmond Ladies of the Elk Lodge BPOE #2590 and Women of the Moose.

Survivors include her son, Larry Stone of Redmond.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and a sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Elk’s Eye Clinic.

Marilyn Joyce (Swanson) Lusby

Aug. 2, 1941 – Aug. 1, 2002

Marilyn Joyce (Swanson) Lusby of Bend died Thursday of cancer. She was 60.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Pilot Butte Cemetery.

Mrs. Lusby was born Aug. 2, 1941, to Edward and Mildred Swanson in San Francisco. She married James R. Lusby on Sept. 30, 1961, in Del Paso, Calif.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs Lusby was affiliated with the Church of God – Free Methodist.

She enjoyed her family, friends and practicing her faith.

Survivors include her husband of Bend; one son, James of Bend; three daughters, Deborah Peters and Jeannine Kuhn, both of Bend, and Laura Morgan of Lewiston, Idaho; her father of Meadow Vista, Calif.; one brother, Edward of Cool, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.

Betty Jean Edwards

Nov. 9, 1924 – Aug. 1, 2002

Betty Jean Edwards of Myrtle Creek died in Roseburg Thursday. She was 77.

Graveside services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Pilot Butte Cemetery.

Mrs. Edwards was born Nov. 9, 1924, in Bend to the late Vance and Jessie (Courtright) Barber. She married Robert Edwards on Feb. 12, 1966.

She enjoyed NASCAR, baseball, fishing and hunting.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Vaughn of Myrtle Creek; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother.
