PHILOSOPHY:
Hartman Middle School is designed to bridge the gap between elementary and high school. Our programs and activities take into account the unique needs of the group of students between 11 and 14 years old and have been created to help the young adolescent move successfully through these transitional years.
We believe that in a supportive and safe environment of mutual respect and cooperation, our middle schools will provide opportunities for each student to become a lifelong learner and a responsible contributing member of society.
2002-2003 ACADEMIC FOCUS:
Advisory
Every student will have an advisor who will be his/her adult advocate. The advisor will be familiar with the student’s school progress and be the main contact person for parents. Students will stay with the same advisor all three years.
Academic Team Time
There are three teams at Hartman. An interdisciplinary team is composed of seven teachers. They share the same students and same schedule. During a block of time, math, science, language arts, and social studies will be taught.
PE/Selectives
PE and Selective classes meet on an every other day schedule. Selectives include art, consumer and family studies, technology, reading and Spanish. These offerings differ according to grade level.
Enrichment
The purpose of enrichment classes is to introduce practical lifetime skills as well as broadening student interest and self-knowledge. Also students who are struggling academically will receive additional help.
PARENT/COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT:
Parents play an important role in their child’s education. Experience and research show that family involvement, not schools, programs or teachers, are the key to a student being successful in school. We welcome parents and community members to participate in and support our programs.
Parents and volunteers are encouraged to contact our School and Community committee, which meets monthly. We need and value your involvement. For more information contact Dorene Hebron, 923-5792.
We are proud of our school – HOME OF THE HARTMAN HUSKIES!
TECHNOLOGY MAGNET:
The magnet goal is to enhance student learning through the use of technology. The magnet will be developed over a three-year period. During the 2002-2003 school year the Metolius team will be piloting the implementation of technology to core curriculum areas. Full magnet implementation will occur during the 2003-2004 school year.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL: Wednesday, Sept. 4
