VISION STATEMENT:

Together, we are committed to promote individual academic excellence and social responsibility with mutual respect, trust and encouragement.

2002-2003 Focus:

We believe in child-centered education and strive to provide our students with the opportunity to participate in a variety of relevant and challenging learning experiences. We encourage students to take responsibility for themselves and their learning. We teach and model the skills and attitudes they will need to work cooperatively, be good problem solvers and build positive, healthy relationships. Our newly designed citizenship skilled program focuses on the qualities of respect, responsibility, honesty and kindness.

We are especially proud of the continuing updates in technology at our school. We are fully wired so each classroom has access to the Internet. We have a newly upgraded, state-of-the-art computer lab. All classrooms have computer, printers and access to current software. Student use of technology includes: The Accelerated Reader Program, keyboarding and word processing skills, research, creating multi-media presentations, web page design and using a variety of software programs to support skills in different curriculum areas.

We are proud of our school Web page that is designed and maintained by student Web masters. Next year we will be adding a new component to our technology program: a student video production lab.

Parent/Community Involvement:

Teamwork is the cornerstone of our success. We believe that the optimum social and academic growth is achieved when students, teachers and parents work together. As a team, we can create a school atmosphere that is safe and supportive and that challenges each student to develop and grow to his or her greatest potential. Whether on Site Council or PSST, in classrooms or on field trips, we welcome and appreciate parents, community members and students who volunteer their time to help make our school a better place. We look forward to our continued collaboration and to strengthening our volunteer program each year.

John Tuck School is special because:

As one parent responded on a profile survey, ”The atmosphere is one of learning; it feels safe and fun. The staff is outstanding – I’m very impressed with all the positive, enthusiastic energy that bubbles out of this school!” It is this enthusiasm, on the parts of students, staff and parents that makes John Tuck a school where students ”want to be.” We are committed to providing the very best learning environment and to giving our students a great start to a lifetime of learning.

Some of the special programs and activities that we offer are: SMART, Battle of the Books, Student Council, Chess Club, Buddy Classes and Peer Tutoring, Conflict Manager Program, Recognition Assemblies, Artist-in-Residence, fifth grade basketball, Special Friends, Bring-Someone-You-Love-to-Lunch, family activities, Space Week, Summer Reading programs, Principal’s Book Club, drama and music performances and many more.
