Victoria Maria (Paddock) Freeman

May 9, 1943 – Sept. 1, 2002

Victoria Maria (Paddock) Freeman of Bend died Sunday. She was 59.

Mrs. Freeman was born May 9, 1943, in Pasadena, Calif.

She was a data entry clerk at Oregon Department of Transportation.

Her hobbies included ceramics, making jewelry, painting and ballet. She enjoyed fly fishing and horses.

Survivors include her parents, Dexter and Dorothy Paddock of Laguna Beach, Calif.; and one sister, Andrea Paddock of Laguna Niguel, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

James Roland Gregory

March 4, 1914 – Aug. 30, 2002

James Roland Gregory of Prineville died Aug. 30. He was 88.

Mr. Gregory was born March 4, 1914, in Grass Range, Mont., to James and Rose Ann (Putney) Gregory. He married Erma Boone on May 30, 1944, in Boone, Iowa.

He served in the Navy for 20 years and retired in 1955.

After retirement, he moved to Corvallis and worked in the woods until 1971 when he moved to Paulina.

Mr. Gregory moved to Prineville in 1981.

He was affiliated with the VFW, the American Legion and USS Fulton.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing horse shoes and pool. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of Prineville; one son, James of Portland; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Kenneth Floyd Osborne

Dec. 7, 1914 – Sept. 1, 2002

Kenneth Floyd Osborne of Prineville died Sunday. He was 87.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Whispering Pines Funeral Home.

Mr. Osborne was born Dec. 7, 1914, in Oakley, Idaho, to Joseph and Mary Osborne. He moved to Prineville in 1927. He married Violetta Stoddard on July 2, 1944, in Portland.

He served in the Navy during World War II in the Aluetian Islands. He was stationed at Bremerton Navel Base until his discharge.

Mr. Osborne worked for the Forest Service at Lookout Mountain and for the Powder River Mining Company in Sumpter.

He also worked for Pine Products and retired with a disability.

He owned The Juniper Cafe until 1960, when he moved to Wisconsin and owned a dairy. He returned to Prineville in 1966 and was one of the founders of Pioneer Memorial Hospital.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry and gardening. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and his dog.

Survivors include his son, Kenny of Prineville; two daughters, Judy Anderson and Martha Simpson, both of Salem; three sisters, LaVon Crawford of Redmond, Verda Smith and June Jones, both of Bend; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Humane Society of the Ochocos.

Vaunda Justene (Clark) Means

March 12, 1928 – Aug. 30, 2002

Vaunda Justene (Clark) Means of Redmond died Friday after a brief illness of pancreatic cancer. She was 74.

No service will be held per her request.

Mrs. Means was born March 12, 1928, in Suplee to Clement and L. Irene (Parsons) Clark. She graduated from Redmond High School in 1947. She married Jim Means on Nov. 27, 1957, in Winnemucca, Nev.

She was a secretary for Central Electric Co-op in Redmond for 10 years.

Mrs. Means enjoyed sewing and reading. She also enjoyed day trips to surrounding areas.

Survivors include her husband of Redmond; and two sisters, Lola Haagenstad and June Timmerman, both of Redmond.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Redmond.

Nadine Hope Wheeler

July 12, 1916 – Aug. 29, 2002

Nadine Hope Wheeler of Kimberly died Aug. 29. She was 86.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Monument Cemetery in Monument.

Mrs. Wheeler was born July 12, 1916, in Detroit to Willard and Anna (Stewart) Randall. She married Arliegh Dickson in March 1933.

She lived in the Eugene/Springfield area until 1941. She married Everett Wheeler on March 2, 1942, in Cottage Grove. They owned a cattle ranch in Kimberly.

Mrs. Wheeler moved to Prineville two years ago to be near family.

She enjoyed crocheting, reading and gardening.

Survivors include her four stepsons, Charles Dickson of Coos Bay, Arther Dickson of Hoopa, Calif., Fred Dickson and William Dickson, both of Reedsport; one daughter, Julia Ann Hall of Prineville; one sister, Helen Wetzell of Springfield; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Olga Ensley

July 13, 1909 – Aug. 30, 2002

Olga Ensley of Redmond died Aug. 30 of natural causes. She was 93.

Mrs. Ensley was born July 13, 1909, in Upham, N.D.

She was a waitress.

Mrs. Ensley was affiliated with the Jehovah’s Witness Church.

She enjoyed making quilts and crocheting.

Survivors include her son, Jack Ensley of Tualatin; and two daughters, Donna Towery of Redmond and Bernida Stuart of Salem.

Jennifer Jean Grant

Nov. 18, 1974 – Aug. 24, 2002

Jennifer Jean Grant of Portland died Aug. 24 of a heroin overdose. She was 27.

A tribute to the people who supported her efforts to overcome addiction will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 21 at The Spiritual Awareness Community in Bend.

Miss Grant was born Nov. 18, 1974, in Newport Beach, Calif.

She moved to Bend after attending two years of college in Santa Barbara, Calif.

She was a high school and college athlete, winning awards in track and volleyball.

Miss Grant was an artist, acting student and performer.

She enjoyed creative writing and spiritual exploration.

Survivors include her father, James Grant of Arcadia, Calif.; her mother, Vicki Grant of Bend; and one brother, Christopher Grant of Bend.

She was preceded in death by two grandfathers and a grandmother.
