James Carl Bowles
Feb. 2, 1945 – April 25, 2003
James Carl Bowles of Redmond died April 25 of colon cancer. He was 58.
Mr. Bowles was born Feb. 2, 1945, in Bend.
He was a receiving clerk at Albertsons in Redmond and worked part-time at the Redmond Liquor store. He also worked at the Wagner’s store in Bend and Redmond.
Survivors include his two sons, Joshua of Redmond and Christopher of Joshua, Texas; his father, James of Gladstone; and two sisters, Karen O’Keefe of Tempe, Ariz., and Judy French of Gladstone.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Reinhardt.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or a hospice charity.
Benjamin L. Foster
Oct. 15, 1913 – April 27, 2003
Benjamin L. Foster of Prineville died Sunday of natural causes. He was 89.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Eureka Cemetery in Newport.
Mr. Foster was born Oct. 15, 1913, in Foster, Mont., to James and Myrtle (Trenholm) Foster. He was raised in Harden, Mont., and attended schools in Lodge Grass, Mont.
He joined the Army in 1942 and served during World War II at Pearl Harbor and in Europe. He married Verna Barrett on Dec. 19, 1942, in Las Vegas.
Mr. Foster moved to Lincoln City in 1971 and to Siletz in 1973. He worked as an auto detailer for Ballard Motors. He later worked for the Lincoln School District as a custodian at Toledo Jr. High School. He retired in early 1980s.
Mr. Foster moved to Prineville in October 2002 to be near his family.
He was affiliated with the Toledo Calvary Chapel and also attended Prineville Praise and Worship Center.
Mr. Foster enjoyed camping and being with his family. His hobbies included making cabinets and picture frames and woodworking.
Survivors include his four sons, Jay of Prineville, Paul of Coos Bay, Ben of Siletz and Fred of Alfalfa; two daughters, Iva Bentley of Keizer and Alice Pierzina of Oakridge; 22 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a brother and five sisters.
Michael R. Adams
March 24, 1948 – April 28, 2003
Michael R. Adams of Hillsboro died Monday. He was 55.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Fir Lawn Mortuary Chapel in Hillsboro followed by interment at Hillsboro Pioneer Cemetery.
Mr. Adams was born March 24, 1948, in San Francisco. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1966. He served in the Navy from 1966 to 1970. He married Jean Lecaros on Jan. 24, 1998, in Las Vegas.
Mr. Adams worked as a firefighter in San Jose, Calif., and on a fishing boat in Juneau, Alaska. He was also a self-employed residential construction worker.
He moved to Sisters in November 2000 and just recently returned to Hillsboro.
He was affiliated with the Tumalo Baptist Church in Bend.
Survivors include his wife of Hillsboro; two daughters, Anita Johnston and Kasandra Sullivan, both of Hillsboro; and five grandchildren.
Fir Lawn Mortuary in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements.
Roy Tryon Davis
July 7, 1924 – April 29, 2003
Roy Tryon Davis of Bend died Tuesday of natural causes. He was 78.
No services will be held per his request.
Mr. Davis was born July 7, 1924, in Los Angeles to Thomas and Lydia (Gillette) Davis.
He served in the Air Force. He married Deloris on Oct. 11, 1942, in Tijuana, Mexico.
Mr. Davis moved to Bend from Los Angeles in 1955. He was the owner and operator of Roy’s Auto Body Repair for 15 years.
He enjoyed his two Yorkshire Terriers, Minnie and Rosie.
Survivors include his wife of Bend; two sons, Tim of Encinitas, Calif., and Mark of San Diego; two daughters, Sharon of Bend and Diane Finch of Phoenix; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son and parents.
Deschutes Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
George DMV George’ Ernest Aurand
Aug. 12, 1948 – April 29, 2003
George ”DMV George” Ernest Aurand of Prineville died Tuesday. He was 54.
A visitation will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Whispering Pines Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Juniper Haven Cemetery in Prineville.
Mr. Aurand was born Aug. 12, 1948, in San Jose, Calif., to Arthur and Angela (Gonzales) Aurand. He married Susanne Rudd on July 5, 1998 in Reno, Nev.
He graduated from high school in San Jose. He worked as a roofer in California for 15 years. He then attended the University of Oregon in 1988 and majored in business.
Mr. Aurand worked at the Department of Motor Vehicle office in Springfield. He was transferred to the Redmond office and then to Prineville in 1992. In 1996, he went to work as a concrete finisher in the Prineville area and was a diesel mechanic for Beaver Motor Coaches. He retired a year ago due to a disability.
His hobbies included riding motorcycles and painting cars. He also enjoyed playing music at nursing homes and assisted living centers in Prineville, reading the Bible, watching movies and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of Prineville; four sons, Lance and Luke Bechtel, both of Prineville, and Shannon and Jason Barton, both of Modesto, Calif.; a daughter, Alicia of San Jose, Calif.; his mother, Angela Neighbors of San Jose; three brothers, David Neighbors of San Jose, Glenn Neighbors of North Platte, Neb., and Ron Neighbors Jr. of San Mateo, Calif.; and ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, stepfather and a brother.

Patty Lou Smith
Dec. 15, 1934 – April 29, 2003
Patty Lou Smith of La Pine died Tuesday of natural causes. She was 68.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Deschutes Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 15, 1934, in Fall City, Wash., to James and Margaret (Baxter) McLaughlin. She married Jack Smith on June 7, 1953, in Seaside.
Mrs. Smith worked as a secretary for La Pine High School for 15 years. She retired in 1997.
Survivors include her husband of La Pine; a son, James of Bend; two daughters, Jacquline Plumondore of Klamath Falls and Kimberly Burt of Longmont, Colo.; three brothers, James McLaughlin of Wilsonville, Richard McLaughlin of Tigard and Michael McLaughlin of Yuma, Ariz.; two sisters, Helen Hitch of Seattle and Caroline Marstall of La Pine; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
