Paul H. Stevenson

June 30, 1913 – June 12, 2003

Paul H. Stevenson of Madras died Thursday of natural causes. He was 89.

A viewing will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bel-Air Colonial Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Jefferson Memorial Park followed by a funeral at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Madras.

Mr. Stevenson was born June 30, 1913, in Culter, Ill., to Bert and Lizzie Brown. He graduated from high school in Wilder, Idaho and later served in the Navy. He married Eva Allen Green in December of 1943. He later married Esther Brown Oliphant on May 13, 1990, in Madras.

Mr. Stevenson was the owner and operator of Stevenson Farms.

He was a former chairman of both the State and Jefferson County Seed Growers and Essential Oil Growers. He was a member of the Jefferson County Co-op Board for 15 years and a 70-year member of the IOOF. He was also affiliated with the United Methodist Church.

Mr. Stevenson enjoyed the Jefferson County Senior Center and volunteering at the nursing home. His hobbies included traveling and dancing. He especially enjoyed his family.

Survivors include his wife of Madras; three sons, Brian of Anchorage, Alaska, Bill Brown of Bend and Tom Brown of Concord, N.H.; three daughters, Mary Ann Barnet of Redmond, Betty Jo Simmons of Sunriver and Robyn Hansen of Bend; three brothers, Robert of Caldwell, Idaho, and Elmer and Jimmy, both of Huntington; two sisters, Jean Statler of Caldwell, Idaho and Betty Ann Whitney of Yuba City, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. View Living Center or the United Methodist Church.

Pearle Sada (Zimmerman) Henske

Aug. 31, 1908 – June 12, 2003

Pearle Sada (Zimmerman) Henske of Redmond died Thursday of natural causes.

She was 96.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday at Autumn Funerals in Redmond. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the First German M.E. Cemetery in Metolius.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the Madras Conservative Baptist Church on 751 NE 10th.

Mrs. Henske was born Aug. 31, 1908, in DeWitt, Neb., to John and Emma (Kreucher) Zimmerman. She married Frederick Henske on Dec. 11, 1929, in DeWitt, Neb. Mrs. Henske worked as a substitute teacher in Culver and Metolius elementary schools.

She also served as a nurse’s aide at Redmond Community Hospital and Mountain View Hospital and Nursing Home in Madras. She also worked at the Gourmet Potatoe Plant – formerly known as the Jefferson Potatoe Warehouse. She was affiliated with the Madras Conservative Baptist Church from 1930 to 1995 and Redmond’s Highland Baptist Church from 1995 to 2003.

She was also a member of the Live and Learn Club. Mrs. Henske enjoyed crocheting and Bible studies.

Survivors include her son, Lowell Henske of Beaverton; her daughters Rachael McIntosh of Redmond, Sharon Rosengarth of Aztec, N.M., and Lillian Heck, of Bellevue, Wash; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers, four sisters and one granddaughter. Memorial contributions or blood donations may be made to the American Red Cross.
