Alona Lonnie’ Smalling

June 27, 1954 – July 17, 2003

Alona ”Lonnie” Smalling of Prineville died July 17 of natural causes. She was 49.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Prineville Funeral Home.

Mrs. Smalling was born June 27, 1954, in Portland to Ardys Close. She grew up in Prineville and graduated from Crook County High School in 1972. She married Alton Mitchell and later married Roy Smalling in Welch, Texas.

She worked as an insurance agent for Combined Insurance and as an interior decorator for Home Interiors.

Mrs. Smalling enjoyed sharing her faith with others and caring for her family.

Survivors include her son, Jeremy of Yukon, Okla.; a daughter, Keri Grimes of Prineville; her parents Ardys and Clarence Close of Prineville and stepfather, Dwight Robirds of Mexico; two sisters, Anita Endresen of Silverton and Linda Christensen of Prineville; and a grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Mary Louise Harrigan

Nov. 15, 1923 – July 21, 2003

Mary Louise Harrigan of Bend died Monday of a stroke. She was 79.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mammoth Lakes, Calif., followed by a graveside service at Mount Morrison Cemetery.

Mrs. Harrigan was born Nov. 15, 1923, in Los Angeles to William and Mary (Kiely) Lucitt. She graduated from high school and college in Los Angeles. She married John Harrigan.

She lived in Encino, Calif., for 30 years before retiring to Bend and Palm Desert, Calif.

Survivors include her husband of Bend; six sons, John, Jim, Joe, Phil, Steve and Paul; three daughters, Maureen, Kathy and Mary; and 20 grandchildren.

Paul Frank Bula

Oct. 9, 1919 – July 20, 2003

Paul Frank Bula of Redmond died Sunday of natural causes. He was 83.

No service will be held.

Mr. Bula was born Oct. 9, 1919, in Isoronow, Poland, to William and Bertha (Szefczak) Bula. He graduated from high school in Poland and attended school to be a meat cutter. He married Maria on Nov. 1, 1989, in Long Beach, Calif.

He served in the Polish Army in England during World War II.

Mr. Bula was a meat cutter in California.

He moved to Bend in 1988. He left the area and moved to Redmond in 1998.

Survivors include his wife of Redmond.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Susan Renee (Overton) Dougherty

July 14, 1960 – July 17, 2003

Susan Renee (Overton) Dougherty of Redmond died July 17 of natural causes. She was 43.

A graveside memorial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Mount Hope Cemetery in Baker City.

Mrs. Doughtery was born July 14, 1960, in Baker City to Robert and Donnie (Cole) Overton. She attended Baker City High School and moved to Central Oregon in 1986. She married Mike Doughtery in Bend in 1986.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Doughtery was affiliated with the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

She enjoyed ceramics, camping and fishing. She also liked attending yard sales.

Survivors include her former husband of Crooked River Ranch; three daughters, Jessica, Megan and Chelsie, all of Redmond; her mother Donnie Gervais of Baker City; a sister Debra Harris of Baker City; grandmother, Myrtle Cole of Baker City; and a grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her father.

James Buck’ J. McArdle

July 27, 1924 – July 21, 2003

James ”Buck” J. McArdle of Bend died Monday of natural causes. He was 78.

No service will be held at this time.

Mr. McArdle was born June 27, 1924, in Bend to Joseph and Ethel (Brandon) McArdle. He married Fannie Newton on Oct. 26, 1946, in Bend.

He served in the Army during World War II as a Tech-4.

Mr. McArdle worked as a log truck driver.

He was affiliated with the Central Oregon Shooting Association.

His hobbies included fishing, hunting and shooting.

Survivors include his wife of Bend; two brothers, Don of Martinez, Calif., and John of Tacoma, Wash.; and a sister, Mary Bartlett of Bend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

John Franklin Brockmueller

May 22, 1912 – July 19, 2003

John Franklin Brockmueller of Prineville died Saturday of natural causes. He was 91.

A viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Prineville Funeral Home. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Prineville Church of the Nazarene.

The Rev. Brockmueller was born May 22, 1912, in Irene, S.D., to Karl and Anna (Haefs) Brockmueller. He attended Bresee Academy and graduated from college in Hutchinson, Kan., in 1940. He was also ordained by the Church of the Nazarene in 1940. The Rev. Brockmueller married Gladys Newberry on Aug. 20, 1940.

He pastored churches in Molalla, Prineville, Prospect, North Bend and in several Kansas cities. He retired in 1978 and returned to Prineville.

Survivors include his son, Gene’o Brown of Texas; a daughter, Lois Roberts of Nampa, Idaho; a brother, Henry of Arcadia, Calif.; a sister, Laura Erwin of Tacoma, Wash.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the World Mission Fund, Prineville Church of the Nazarene or Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho.
