Stephen Joseph Kirschbaum
Nov. 8, 1914 – Aug. 25, 2003
Stephen Joseph Kirschbaum of Redmond died Monday of natural causes. He was 88.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Redmond. A private interment will be held at Belcrest Memorial Cemetery in Salem.
Mr. Kirschbaum was born Nov. 8, 1914, in Minneapolis to Michael and Anna (Borsch) Kirschbaum. He was educated in Minneapolis and married Katherine O’Keefe on Sept. 16, 1939, in Minneapolis.
He worked as a truck driver and maintenance engineer in Minnesota. He retired in 1977 and moved to Salem. He moved to Redmond in January.
Mr. Kirschbaum was an active member of his church and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his sons, Michael of St. Paul, Minn., and David of Champlin, Minn.; a daughter, Stephanie Swee of Redmond; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and a son.

John G. Thalman
Oct. 2, 1915 – Aug. 23, 2003
John G. Thalman of Bend died Aug. 23 of natural causes. He was 87.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery in Bend.
Mr. Thalman was born Oct. 2, 1915, in Vermillion, Utah, to John and Ida (Hansen) Thalman. He married Pauline Ray on June 27, 1942, in Reno, Nev.
Mr. Thalman worked as a farmer and a shipyard worker in his early years before working for the Brooks-Scanlon and Shevlin Hixon mills as a knife grinder and saw filer. He was later self-employed in remodeling and property management.
He was a member of the Lions Club and active in the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and the First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Thalman enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, spending time in his shop and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of Bend; a son, Ron of West Linn; a daughter, Sherry Boyd of Bend; a sister, Ada Chambers of Victoria, B.C.; a brother, Ray of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Dorothy B. Guest
May 11, 1920 – Aug. 23, 2003
Dorothy B. Guest of Prineville died Aug. 23 of natural causes. She was 83.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Juniper Haven Cemetery in Prineville.
Mrs. Guest was born May 11, 1920, in Augusta, Maine, to Williston and Dorothy (Handy) Burnell. She graduated from Kants Hill Seminary in Maine. She married Harley Guest on Sept. 24, 1939, in Seabrook, N.H.
The couple moved to Southern California in 1949 and lived in San Diego and Santa Maria, Calif. She worked as an accountant for the Santa Maria School District before moving to Twentynine Palms, Calif., in 1984. They moved to Prineville in 1999.
Mrs. Guest was a member of the California Desert Valley Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She enjoyed genealogy and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Sharyn Jameson of Prineville; and a brother, Richard Burnell of Monmouth, Maine.

Willard Glenn Boynton
Oct. 7, 1915 – Aug. 26, 2003
Willard Glenn Boynton of Bend died Tuesday. He was 87.
A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday at Niswonger, Reynolds Funeral Home. A funeral will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday at New Life Family Center in Bend.
Mr. Boynton was born Oct. 7, 1915, in Akron, Ohio. He married Margaret Loy.
He served in the Navy during World War II as a machinist.
Mr. Boynton moved to California and worked as a machinist with Brown Citrus Company in Covina, Calif. He retired in 1980 and moved to Bend in 1997.
He was a deacon at the Conservative Baptist Church in Long Beach, Calif., and the New Life Family Center in Bend. He enjoyed playing the harmonica and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his three sons, David of Bend, Robert of Hemet, Calif., and Dennis of San Bernadino, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a brother and two sisters.

Chantelle R. Nicholson
Oct. 31, 1981 – Aug. 4, 2003
Chantelle R. Nicholson of Bend died Aug. 4 in an automobile accident. She was 21.

Miss Nicholson was born Oct. 31, 1981, in Portland to David Devaney and Andrea Nicholson. She graduated from Redmond High School in 2001 and attended Central Oregon Community College.
She worked as an assistant warehouse manager for Cascade Heating and Cooling.
Miss Nicholson was affiliated with St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. She enjoyed training and riding horses and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her mother of Portland and father of Gresham; a brother, Jason Vaden of Portland; a sister, Katty of Portland; and her grandparents, James and Betsy of Portland.

Hazel Gertrude Jones
Jan. 4, 1916 – Aug. 25, 2003
Hazel Gertrude Jones of Bend died Monday of natural causes. She was 87.
A viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Prineville Funeral Home. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Powell Butte Christian Church.
Mrs. Jones was born Jan. 4, 1916, in Mitchell to Jesse and Lillie (Blann) Maxwell. She graduated from Mitchell High School and married Homer Jones on June 10, 1934, in Mitchell.
The moved to Powell Butte worked on her family’s farm.
She was a member of the Powell Butte Christian Church. Her hobbies included quilting, gardening, square dancing and playing cards. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include her sons, Jerry of Culver and Jim of Prineville; a daughter, Sandra McIntosh of Sunnyside, Wash.; three brothers, Art Maxwell of Madras, Don Maxwell of Mitchell and Bill Maxwell of Weiser, Idaho; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, a daughter and a grandchild.
