Ida Clara Nielsen

Nov. 8, 1925 – Aug. 31, 2003

Ida Clara Nielsen of Prineville died Sunday of natural causes. She was 77.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Prineville Funeral Home.

Mrs. Nielsen was born Nov. 8, 1925, in Riverton, Iowa, to Walter and Lavina (Smith) Macninch. She married Jack Nielsen on Jan. 24, 1947, in Omaha, Neb.

Mrs. Nielsen worked for the state of Oregon in Portland and moved to Prineville in 1982 after her retirement. She volunteered for Neat Repeat and the Senior Center.

Mrs. Nielsen was a member of the Carnation Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Prineville Soroptimists. She enjoyed gardening and camping.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Douglas of The Dalles and Terry of San Antonio; a daughter, Doyle Macninch of Newberg; and six grandchildren.

Vincent Brandt Calcote

Oct. 4, 1949 – Sept. 2, 2003

Vincent Brandt Calcote of Prineville died Tuesday. He was 53.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today at Whispering Pines Chapel, 185 NE Fourth St., in Prineville.

Mr. Calcote was born Oct. 4, 1949, in Marshall, Texas. He graduated from Marshall High School.

Mr. Calcote married Linda Sosbee on Nov. 2, 1982, in Marshall.

He worked in construction in Texas, Arkansas and Maryland before moving to Central Oregon in 1987 and working as a cabinet builder.

His hobbies included woodworking, model building, flying model planes, camping and hiking. Mr. Calcote enjoyed being outdoors, visiting the ocean and spending time with his dogs, his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Paul of Prineville; a daughter, Rebekah of Prineville; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Helene S. VanLanduyt

Jan. 29, 1910 – Aug. 30, 2003

Helene S. VanLanduyt of Bend died Saturday of natural causes. She was 93.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Niswonger, Reynolds Funeral Home in Bend.

Mrs. VanLanduyt was born Jan. 29, 1910, in Montana to Henry and Nellie Selde. She graduated from high school in Bend and married Emil J. VanLanduyt.

Mrs. VanLanduyt worked as a legal secretary and a private bookkeeper.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Eric Cox of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jason Cox and Kama Cox, both of Eugene; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son and a daughter.

Velma Rose Booze

May 24, 1927 – Aug. 30, 2003

Velma Rose Booze of Madras died Saturday of natural causes. She was 76.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mount Jefferson Memorial Park in Madras.

Mrs. Booze was born May 24, 1927, in Howard, S.D., to Albert and Rose Gehring. She married Dwayne Booze on July 14, 1952, in Howard.

Mrs. Booze worked as a registered nurse for Central Oregon District Hospital until her retirement in the early 1990s.

She was a member of the Madras Free Methodist Church and enjoyed shopping, crocheting, dancing, traveling and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband of Madras; two sons, Douglas of Seattle and Mark of Roseburg; a daughter, Diane Sisk of Portland; a brother, Milton Gehring of Howard; a sister, Lucille Gehring of Denver; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

LaVelle Ruth Stansell

Nov. 21, 1924 – Aug. 31, 2003

LaVelle Ruth Stansell of Redmond died Sunday. She was 78.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Redmond Memorial Chapel, 717 SW Sixth St., in Redmond.

Mrs. Stansell was born Nov. 21, 1924, in Montesano, Wash., to Marion and Ruth (Crosby) Ulshoeffer.

She married Jess Stansell in August 1941 in Hillsboro.

Mrs. Stansell worked as a grocery clerk and as a bookkeeper for her husband’s truck business.

Her hobbies included crocheting, cooking, gardening and camping. She enjoyed staying at her winter home in Courtside, Ariz., and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her son, Mike of Beaverton; a daughter, Cheryl Whitefield of Redmond; a brother, Robert Ulshoeffer of Salem; a sister, Maxine Simpson of Beaverton; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Virginia Lee Hermens

Sept. 6, 1926 – Aug. 31, 2003

Virginia Lee Hermens of Sisters died Sunday. She was 76.

A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Des-chutes Memorial Gardens in Bend.

Mrs. Hermens was born Sept. 6, 1926, in Myrtle Point to Elmer and Flossie (Lett) Wilson. She graduated from Myrtle Point High School and La Verne College in California.She married Marvin Hermens on April 13, 1947, in Myrtle Point.

Mrs. Hermens was a homemaker.

She was a member of Sisters Christian Church and Redmond Calvary Church. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Doug of Sisters; three daughters, Deb Glover of Athena, Darlene Rambo of White City and Dianne Faltys of Plano, Texas; two brothers, Burton Wilson of Myrtle Point and Earl Wilson of Scio; and 12 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother.

Stephen Douglas Brumback

Aug. 16, 1946 – Sept. 1, 2003

Stephen Douglas Brumback of La Pine died Monday. He was 57.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Brumback was born Aug. 16, 1946, in Manhattan, Kan., to Harold and Belva (Harper) Brumback.

He served in the Marines during the Vietnam era and was honorably discharged.

Mr. Brumback married Christine Sparks on Dec. 8, 1990, in Lake Tahoe, Calif. He worked as a bargeman and enjoyed ocean fishing.

Survivors include his wife; his father; two sons, Jacob of La Pine and Ryan of Garberville, Calif.; two stepsons, Wesley Sparks of Kelseyville, Calif., and Douglas Arevalo of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a daughter, Holly of La Pine; and a sister, Carol Davis of Sacramento, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his mother.
