The ”godfather of American herbalists,” Michael Moore, first published his ”Medicinal Plants of the Mountain West” in 1979.

In the first update since the original printing, Moore has added another 20 years of research and expertise working with medicinal plants to this information-packed volume.

The enlarged edition of ”Medicinal Plants of the Mountain West” covers the entire range of medicinal herbs found in New Mexico, Colorado, west Texas, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Oregon, Washington and California.

Plant species are presented with both botanical and popular names, with descriptions and habitat explanations.

Each plant is illustrated with a line drawing and color photographs. Maps also accompany the descriptions.

Most importantly, Moore provides detailed information on the medicinal uses of each plant, from preventing nervous indigestion (bugleweed) to relieving bronchitis (grindelia).

Moore is the author of numerous works on the herbal plants of the West and Southwest, including ”Medicinal Plants of the Desert and Canyon West.” He opened his first herb store in Encino, Calif., in 1974. It’s now Herbs Etc. of Santa Fe, N.M. He’s the founder of the Southwest School of Botanical Medicine in Bisbee, Ariz. Moore lives in Bisbee and works as a writer, researcher, therapist and teacher to professional herbalists.

Published by Museum of New Mexico Press, the 368-page soft cover retails for $24.95.
