New course planned near The Dalles

THE DALLES – Groundbreaking for the Sundoon Golf Club at The Gorge, a new public golf course to be constructed near this Columbia River city about 135 miles north of Bend, is scheduled to take place in the spring of 2004.

The 18-hole links course will actually be situated on 377 acres of City of The Dalles-owned land just across the Columbia River near Dallesport, Wash. The 7,100-yard, par-72 course is expected to open for play in early 2005.
Noted golf course designer John Fought, whose design resume includes work on the Meadows and Crosswater courses at Sunriver Resort and Pumpkin Ridge in North Plains, will be the principal owner and designer of the Sundoon course.
According to a release from John Fought Design, plans are in the works for a clubhouse at Sundoon, which Fought said will be regarded as an affordable public course.”
