REDMOND – Central Oregon athletes made a name for themselves Friday during the annual Pepsi High Desert Invitational track and field meet hosted by Redmond High School.

The non-scoring, eight-school event drew teams from Bend, Crook County, Sisters, Hood River Valley, Pendleton, Southridge and South Albany, in addition to the host Panthers, on a sun-drenched spring afternoon.

Eleven of the 17 boys events were won by competitors from Central Oregon, while eight of the 17 girls events were won by locals.

”A lot of people from all of the teams had personal bests,” noted Redmond coach Rick Nickell. ”We had great weather and great competition.”

Sisters senior Jawan Davis won three events on the day, placing first in the 100 meters (11.03 seconds), 200 (22.24) and high jump (6 feet, 2 inches). The Outlaws finished first in the 4 x 400 relay (3:33.89).

On the girls side, the sisters High duo of Minique Yost and Jenny Boswell had big days.

Yost won the 200 meters in 25.79 seconds after earlier winning the 400 in 59.59.
